nabudetoulouse Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 (edited) One more (it's a good day) :-O :-P et encore ( in french !!!!!!) Edited September 16, 2005 by nabudetoulouse
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 Today on day 7 Baruto was beaten soundly by Masatsukasa whose sumo is very good and smart. Very smart rikishi. Anyways, Masatsukasa hit Baruto hard at tha tachi-ai and got very low inside and pushed Baruto out. No chance there to settle in for his power sumo on the belt.

Anyways, Masatsukasa hit Baruto hard at tha tachi-ai and got very low inside and pushed Baruto out. No chance there to settle in for his power sumo on the belt. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're quite correct. Masatsukasa just blitzed him out of the ring. Masa is not only smart, he is also fundamentally sound. He had a good tachiai and maintained great position as he unhesitatingly moved forward. The Japanese call that a "kansho" -- complete or thorough victory. I've followed Masa from the very beginning--quite by default--since he finished #1 in maezumo when my adoptee, Shironishiki, was #2. He has impressed me all along the way and has, confound it, left Shironishiki well behind in the dohyo dust. On the other hand, this bout and his loss to Ryuho on Day 2 show that Baruto is totally helpless when his opponent aggressively get into attacking position and force the issue. His inexperience is revealed as he has no counter-move whatsoever. Don't get me wrong. I still think Baruto is a fantastic prospect--the European with the most upside potential. It's just that, at this point, he is . . . unpolished.
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 On day 8 Baruto got into yotsu with Raiko and both attempted some power moves moving each other around but Baruto prevails at this level in sheer power-duel and won with shitatenage. On day 9 though Baruto lost to the speed and explosiveness of Yoshikaze. No tsuki/oshi from Yoshikaze at all but a rapid surge into shitate-position and before Baruto had time to react, he pivoted strongly and turned Baruto to the tawara and out. Baruto has lost all his 3 bouts quite one-sidedly and he all but lost to Dairaido too but the rest of his wins have been very strong. He has lost "easily" and he won "easily". Interesting combination so far.
Kintamayama Posted September 23, 2005 Author Posted September 23, 2005 10-3...not bad for a Juryo debut .
Senpai Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 where will he land in banzuke if he's result will be 10-5 and what if 12-3?
Kashunowaka Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 where will he land in banzuke if he's result will be 10-5 and what if 12-3? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> With 10-5 he would often end up around J8-J9, and with 12-3 he could get to the region of J4. But the real answer is: it depends.
Randomitsuki Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Today I've been to the Kokugikan for the first time in my life! Yoohoo! Erm, now on topic. I've seen that Baruto constantly snipped with his fingers immediately before tachi-ai. Looked like "c'mon, c'mon, I'm gonna get you"-style. Are other rikishi doing the same? Looks a bit weird.
Sakana Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 (edited) But the real answer is: it depends. This answer sounds so typically French :-P Damn, I'll have to watch lots of videos when I'll get back my computer ^^ I never figured that Baruto could do a so good start in j Edited September 23, 2005 by Sakana

Senpai Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Win against Toyonoshima spoiled Toyonoshima's cleen sweep and kept him second in overall.
Jaffa Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 (edited) So 12-3 it ends. Please, can anyone provide comparitive statistics for Yuryo debuts? Edited September 25, 2005 by Jaffa
Doitsuyama Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Try this hakkeyoi search. As you can see, the last 12-3 debut was Miyabiyama and all six previous 12-3 or 13-2 debuts won the yusho. Oh, and one more thing. As is custom with great reults in lower divisions, you can not predict from the result alone if the future from the rikishi in question will be great or not. No less than four had only Maegashira as highest rank, leaving Tochinonada (Sekiwake) and Miyabiyama (Ozeki) as the only real success stories, but even those two careers went somewhat below generated expectations.
hoshidango Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 Can't wait till he gets to Makuuchi in two bashos(I decided he will be there)! I want see him win 10 or more on that basho.

(Yusho winner...)
Senpai Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Is there a video from Bart last day bout? Or will the vids from last day juryo and makushita divisions come later?!
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 (edited) Is there a video from Bart last day bout? Or will the vids from last day juryo and makushita divisions come later?! Probably not because webfeed was down all the over world for most of juryo. Ymm Edited September 26, 2005 by Kaikitsune Makoto

Gusoyama Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 I could see Baruto becoming the next Musashimaru. NOT because of talent, not because of size, but because of his personality, and "lovability". Its been mentioned that he's already loved by fans, has a good repore(sp) with fans, and has a seemingly easy going character. (You are going off-topic...)
Senpai Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Nice pics .. little salt throwing competition before and wrestling afterwards. It was a tie in the end I think (Shaking head...)
