Haru Basho Shonichi!

Good Evening! This is Tooyama.

Haru Basho started today!!

Tochiazuma-zeki won handily with faultless sumo.

As for me, I will adjust my attitude and forge ahead.

Up until now, the Tamanoi Blog has been updated everyday during a basho.

Henceforth, it will be updated every other day.

It is the plan to update the Tochiazuma Blog everyday.

Please continue to support both.

A chilly rain has been falling since this morning in Osaka.

We were getting all wet on our way to the basho.

Day 7 of Haru Basho

It is raining again in Osaka today.

Tochiazuma-zeki regrettably lost today.

At this point, I am at 2-wins-and-1-loss with a bout scheduled for tomorrow.

Tomorrow is Nakabi of Haru Basho.

I intend to do my best in the second half till the very end.

I see that while the Ozeki won on Day 8, the tsukebito is now 2-2.

Does anyone know who all of Tochiazuma's tsukebito are at the moment? Since this blog has been translated here, it has specifically mentioned Azumahikari, Isoazuma, Nishitani, Toshinyama, and Tooyama (of course). It's also said that an Ozeki is allowed 4-6 tsukebito. I'd like to know who they are so I can follow their records more easily.

In the case of Tochiazuma-zeki, there are four tsukebito assigned to him for the basho and

each one has his particular role.

When I was doing tsukebito duties (I am off right now due to injury),

Nishitani took care of bath and miscellaneous duties.

Isoazuma carried the zabuton and towels.

Tooyama was the warm-up opponent who was responsible for tightening the mawashi.

Together with Toshinyama, the

Toshinyama is the group leader. Tooyama is the "aide/secretary." Isoazuma is the personal valet. Nishitani is the go-fer.

When Tochiazuma goes on his periodic trips to Okinawa, he normally takes Tooyama and Isoazuma. Isoazuma would do most of the personal chores while Tooyama's job would include chronicling the journey.

Isaoazuma was the sole tsukebito to accompany Azuma to Las Vegas. Since he was allowed only one tsukebito, he took Isoazuma, the guy that helps him dress and carries his bags.

Through the course of the blog entries here, 5 different guy guys are mentioned as being Tochiazuma's tsukebito (the 4 you list plus Azumahikari, who is said to be a tsukebito in the 6/27/05 entry, forum message date Nov 7, 2005 on page 5 of this thread).

What I'm wondering is who are the current tsukebito (not just the ones assigned for the current basho). Are the 5 guys mentioned in the blog here the current ones? Was someone replaced as a tsukebito through promotion/demotion/retirement/quitting/making-a-change? Are there more than 5 of them now? Are there fewer than 5 of them now? Were there ever 5 of them at one time?

I guess it could, but I didn't think it did. Because the entry said "there are four tsukebito assigned to him for the basho" and went on to say what each of the 4 is responsible for, I took it to mean that (when that entry was written) Tochiazuma had 4 guys doing tsukebito duty for him during that particular basho, regardless of how many tsukebito he actually had at that time a few months ago.
