Doitsuyama Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 No. I will make some videos from other bouts later though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Those videos from Senshuraku are uploaded now. As you might have seen in another thread, I had another little project going keeping me busy. (Blushing...)
Asashosakari Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Yes. Too bad. I don't care much for Kotooshu's shikona either. Besides being hard to pronounce, all it really says is that he is in Sadogatake-beya, and that he is from "Europe". It's just so vapid. If you ask a Bulgarian (or a Swede, or an Italian) where he is from, he would never answer "Europe". Baruto's shikona ("the Balt") is a bird of the same feather but doesn't even have anything like the Koto part.Compare with Kokkai: it says something about his origin but has a nice poetic meaning in itself. And it has a nice ring to it. Well, these are just my opinions as a layman in these matters and a non-Japanese. It would be interesting to hear what our Japanese speakers think. (Clapping wildly...) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm hardly one of those, but I think part of the reason is that these "localized" shikona tend to include syllables that aren't very common in shikona. I mean, Iwakiyama or Wakanoyama are perhaps even less imaginative, but they have that certain "shikona sound" to them. Kotooshu and Baruto don't. But of course, there are also some seriously wacky shikona in the lower divisions, so perhaps this is also another case of shining the spotlight too brightly onto the foreign guys. (Blushing...)
Kintamayama Posted July 27, 2005 Author Posted July 27, 2005 (edited) And Moti, you're slipping...or is the "looks like Kaiho" line too obvious when it's actually a Hakkaku-beya shin-juryo? (Blushing...) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, truthfully, he looks a bit rigid and woody. And the guy in the kimono doesn't look a bit like Kaihou either.. Edited July 27, 2005 by Kintamayama
Kintamayama Posted July 28, 2005 Author Posted July 28, 2005 21 year old new sekitori Masatsukasa with the "Gutspose", Irumagawa kanban lost weight?:
Senpai Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Looks like Bart is always happy. Smiling face is always shining .. except dohyo, there he is calm and serious as others. IMO
Naganoyama Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Raiko, 27, Hakkaku Beya from Osaka (Makushita East 2, 5wins 2 losses) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ... want to go up to Makuuchi." ... Dairaido, 25, Takadagawa Beya from Oonojo City, Fukuoka Prefecture )Makushita West 4, 4 wins 3 losses) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...want to climb up to a rank where I can display fully my spirited efforts against the yokozuna." ... Baruto, 20, Mihogaseki Beya from Estonia (Makushita West 6, 5 wins 3 losses) Height, Weight: 197 cm, 165 kg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ...As I will have a bout every day starting next basho, I'd like to win all 15." ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I like their aspirations. This is much better than the bland 'I want to go all out for my 8' stuff that we usually get.
Kintamayama Posted July 30, 2005 Author Posted July 30, 2005 "Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in.." Bart, Shiraishi and Mihogaseki Oyakata bonding:
Otokonoyama Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Is it just my monitor, or is this Baruto guy not especially blonde? I mean, from all the excitement over his hair, I was expecting hair the colour of the wall behind him...

Otokonoyama Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 After viewing the evidence (thanks for the pics), this really is a tempest in a teapot. It must have been a slow news day, pickle-season, or whatever ya wanna call it...
Kintamayama Posted September 5, 2005 Author Posted September 5, 2005 (edited) New promotee Dairaidou got his new keshomawashi and threw a "Juryo here I am" party at the Kkan yesterday. It has a tiger as a theme, just like his Oyakata Takadagawa had during his active career. "I am excited - I feel I cannot allow myself to lose!", he said, overwhelmed. His Oyakata was promoted to Juryo in Kyushu 1965 and had the same design. "I hope that in a short while he will beat the Yokozuna!", added Takadagawa Oyakata. Dairaidou and new KM with the Torah: Edited September 5, 2005 by Kintamayama
