Another present to sumo fans. (Dribbling...) Thank you ! (In a state of confusion...) (Showing respect...) (Clapping wildly...)

Doing one basho per issue would leave the mag with endless stories, and it would be sure to jog memories (anybody remember the Aki 1994 basho - see?). (In a state of confusion...)  It might take a bit of work to dig up the details, but it could sure be fun.

Hey that's a kind of stuff I may enjoy doing it too.

I think I mentioned about this 94 Aki basho a while back here. There are still three active sekitoris around from this basho too - Kaio, Kotonowaka and Wakanoyama. Amazing about their endurance.

Anyway here's the basho Ozeki Takanohana won his sixth Yusho with 15-0 record and he followed it up with another 15-0 Yusho in the Kyushu. And as they say the rest is history as he got promoted to Yokozuna at the Hatsu in 1995.

The pic is from that 94 Aki Basho program.

Oh here's a bit of trivia for you - both Takanohana and Wakanohana had their shikona change after the 94 Aki Basho but most here would not recognize it as they only changed the "NO" from katakana to Kanji as following:

Takanohana: 貴ノ花 => 貴乃花

Wakanohana: 若ノ花 => 若乃花

Edit: Incidentally at this point in the Aki 94, he weighed 141 kg. According to a story this morning from Nikkan Sports newspaper he now weighs 90 kg - he eats a meal a day and the mawashi he used to wrap four times around his body, he would need to do it six. I remember even when he weighed 160 kg, so I imagine 80 kg is not that far away.

Speakin' of old guys (In a state of confusion...) , I would love to see a feature that narratively recaps old basho, too.  Not just a win/loss thing, but more of a story. Add in interesting kimarite, rivalries, odd events, retirements, new additions to the kokugikan's cafe menu, etc. for flavor.  Doing one basho per issue would leave the mag with endless stories, and it would be sure to jog memories (anybody remember the Aki 1994 basho - see?). (Showing respect...)  It might take a bit of work to dig up the details, but it could sure be fun.

Maybe also a "This day/week/month/bi-month in Sumo", too (something like Rowan's newsclips pages).  It could be as simple as "on xx/yy day 50 years ago, Zzz-zeki set the new record for qqq".

I actually did a couple of these for the SML back in 1962. I would be willing to do some more if there is a demand for it.

There is a lot of information on the web site to work with and there is always more being added.

Jonosuke & wanchanyama, you guys are brilliant! (Eh?) I should have known.... That's exactly the kind of thing I was talking about. I would love to see more. (Dribbling...) Maybe with SFM, there'd be room/ability to add in some photos of interesting bouts, rikishi, etc. and a full listing of the Makuuchi results, too. :-D

Wanchanyama, please keep that juryo.com going - I love to browse.

Excellnt. Quality, coverage, staff, pics, content, depth. One of best things happened to sumo recently. And this is free!

Thank you for this and definately looking forward to the future development. Now I can finally turn to my friends and explain what sumo is!
