Shomishuu Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I might have read somewhere that Raiden once killed an opponent, but that would have been about 200 years ago...other than that, I've never heard of it myself. :-(
_the_mind_ Posted June 6, 2005 Author Posted June 6, 2005 (edited) interesting.....Raiden was one of the best ever. i wonder how physically large he was or wasnt just searched....the Le Mond Sumo Magazine has a huge article about him. says that he was 197cms(nearly 6'5") tall and 169Kg(371lbs)....not just that but the base of his palm to the end of his middle finger was 24cms (9.4inches) with his size and fabled strength, so long ago (given the size of people then) he could have easily accidently killed someone i would think this was nearly 240 years ago (born in 1767....started training under Tanikaze in 1784...first appearence on the banzuke in 1789 (Yusho))... it also says because of his huge size and hands they forbid him from using tsuppari soon after he started his domination. Jonosuke Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 interesting.....Raiden was one of the best ever. i wonder how physically large he was or wasnt <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is an excellent detailed article about him on Le Monde du Sumo and in English - you can access it through their site. I also recall I wrote something on this Forum a while back, so you may find it by doing Search.
AOZORA Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 (edited) actually wakanohana meant it in a literal sense. the possibility of a broken neck or such like. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly that was what he meant in his book. Compared to his competitors Kaio, Miyabi, and large Hawains, Waka was too little and he felt big danger to have a life threataning injury like broken neck, and back. Edited June 8, 2005 by AOZORA
