Seven Mongolian rikishi left this morning for Mongolia for a rest. They looked real colorful in their various outfits. Ama and Asasekiryuu encountered some problems when they attempted to board with a 42 inch plasma TV. They were told it was too big and too heavy, and they were asked to pay for the overweight. After an hour of discussions, they finally paid, and had 25 minutes to spare before takeoff. "They made us wait a lot.. But still, I'm looking forward for some major relaxation..", said Hakuhou, smiling

Guess they all fly business class as they couldnt possbily fit in an economy seat, I barely do at 83kg, lord only knows if a 145kg 191cm man does :-D

I hope they bought an international model Plasma TV or a they have a transformer back home as Mongolia is 220volts, Japan is only 100V :-S

Have a nice trip boys (Sigh...)

where they trying to take this tv as a carry-on?

Yes they were.

I hate it when people do that. Check in the &%#$ luggage! (In a state of confusion...)

Maybe they were afraid of the tv being tossed as baggages are among cargo- despite the FRAGILE sign. This is hard earned money which they used to buy it with afterall.

But yes, 42-inch TV in a box, definitely too big to carry on. (Holiday feeling...)

It's hard to believe they let them have a plasma tv as a carry-on. The last time at the Narita they even weighed my carry-on there and told me it was too heavy (though it was still a regulation size as they checked to see if it fit into one of those things to check your bag size. I had to take something out to get it through...

Another thing, these days fastest growing stores in Akihabara are those catering to international travellers. These stores carry exclusively products meant for export from Japan and you do not need to pay the sales tax as you are presumably taking them out (they stick a document in your passport which the agent at Narita dutuflly takes it out without ever checking you have it with you). I bought a portable DVD player and had it in my carry-on just in case they check but they never did and I thought I should have packed it in a luggage.

Next time I am thinking of getting one of those Sony TV base station which you can set it up in Japan (in my case my mother-in-law's place) and connect it to internet. Then I can carry the remote monitor around and connect it to internet and can watch Japanese TV live anywhere.

Well, it would be just a little bit difficult for the poor Narita staff to deny a gang of four full-grown sekitori anything, wouldn't it? (In a state of confusion...)

Make it three and a half. (In a state of confusion...)

Anybody have information about the basketball game between Mongolian Rikishi and high-ranked traditional wrestlers? It was supposed to take place on 25th of May in Ulaanbaatar.
