Asashouryuu gets poked in the eye

Asashouryuu got poked in the eye by Hakuhou today. Asa had the match won, but Hakuhou decided to pull him into the audience anyway. He got up wiping his eye, and kept doing it all the way up the hanamichi. It looked pretty serious to me, although we know the feed's quality.

Asa had stopped rubbing his eye by the time he walked out of the arena and it looked OK. No sign of redness or a cut. Did you notice Asa giving Hakuho another 2 handed shove (even after Hakuho was well off the dohyo and into the crowd)?

No, I actually saw Hakuhou pull him, and then get shoved. And if there indeed was a shove, that is for good measure.

Even though I am a critic of Shoryu's somewhat common practice of giving an extra shove at the end, I think this one was well deserved, since Hakuho had pulled him into the crowds.

I'll agree to disagree-I drew a different conclusion.

Same end though-Asa on top! I'll go rewind and watch again...and again! My husband was there today, when he gets home, I'll ask what it looked like live.

Do you mean back down the hanamichi from the dohyo or leaving the building itself? On TV did'nt look too bad so will presume you mean away from the dohyo - TV showed nothing of leaving the Kokugikan AFAIK (Punk rocker...)

"Out of the arena" means out of the area where spectators sit...when he rounded the corner and handed the envelopes to his helper the camera was on him for quite some time - I have put my tape on pause and his eye looked OK to me. Remember they have 5 judges for just this reason - everyone "sees" things differently. (Punk rocker...)

Have you made it out to the Kokugikan any days this basho? Where in Tokyo are you? I'm near Omotesando.

(Clapping wildly...) pray tell - what does such an individual look like? Was it the ' I love SF and am going straight to my PC to report on this ' (some members obviously have wide heads) in red letters tattooed on their forehead that gave them away? I am very glad some people still know Moe. I was worried for a while there, since a whole day passed with no replies..

One thing that I noticed by Shoryu is that he immediately shows any discomfort after his bouts. I really don't see that much public showing of discomfort from other rikishis, unless they are seriously injured.

Like this eye incident, or the shoulder discomfort from Wakanosato's match, or the elbow problem from some other match I can quite remember.

Maybe he is trying to make his opponents think he is hurt? (Pulling hair...)
