Doitsuyama Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 (edited) Asashoryu keeps his two win lead intact with a quick oshidashi against Hakuho, but there still are three pursuers at 11-2 as Tochiazuma won the Ozeki battle against Chiyotaikai, Kotomitsuki got his tenth successive win and Kyokushuzan beat Tamakasuga. Asashoryu can secure the yusho tomorrow against Chiyotaikai against whom his record is 15-5 overall and 10-1 in the last two years. Wakanosato lost to Kotooshu and has to beat Iwakiyama and Kotomitsuki on the last two days to achieve the kachi-koshi. Should he fail, a second Sanyaku position will be available besides Tosanoumi who drops from Sekiwake. The highest Maegashira who still has the chance to get kachi-koshi is Miyabiyama who face Kokkai and maybe Tamanoshima and must win both. More likely candidates are Kotooshu and, yes, Kyokushuzan. Kyokushuzan is pretty low on the banzuke, but there aren't many good candidates for a second promotion if Miyabiyama fails. Tokitsuumi and Toki lost to bring immediate demotion danger to them. One more loss and they are likely down to Juryo. Takanowaka is at this position since he was 2-9, but now he is 4-9 with two good wins, still two more to go for him as well. Shimotori and Hayateumi likely will go down, while Tokitenku and Toyonoshima needs one win to be safe. The Juryo yusho will go to Kasugano-beya as the two leaders won very convingly against pursuers Hakurozan and Daishodai. Tamaasuka's loss eliminated last doubts. The only question now is if there will be playoff and if Tochinohana can rack up enough wins for a promotion to Makuuchi from J8w. Tochisakae is the only sure promotion to Makuuchi so far, but five more rikishi are still in with Ishide, Tamaasuka, Hakurozan, Senshuyama and Tochinohana. Sumanofuji's loss means a likely fifth free slot in Juryo (after Kotoryu, Dewanofuji, Gojoro and Maikaze) while Kanbayashi, Harunoyama and Kotokasuga probably are safe from demotion with their wins today. The last two days won't have much to do in terms of Juryo demotions. -- Doitsuyama Day 13 Juryo J14w Maikaze (5-8) yorikiri Ms5w Hamanishiki (2-5) J13w Kotokasuga (7-6) hikiotoshi Ms1e Kaido (3-4) J12w Harunoyama (7-6) yorikiri J12e Sumanofuji (4-9) J11e Kanbayashi (6-7) yorikiri J13e Daimanazuru (7-6) J5w Kitazakura (6-7) kotenage J14e Dewanosato (2-11) J10e Yotsukasa (6-7) oshidashi J5e Kasugao (6-7) J4w Otsukasa (7-6) yorikiri J11w Chiyotenzan (7-6) J4e Senshuyama (8-5) oshidashi J7e Kasuganishiki (7-6) J8w Tochinohana (11-2) oshidashi J3w Hakurozan (8-5) J6w Asofuji (5-8) shitatedashinage J3e Takanotsuru (4-9) J9e Kobo (7-6) hatakikomi J2w Tamaasuka (8-5) J2e Tochisakae (11-2) oshidashi J6e Daishodai (8-5) J1w Ishide (6-7) sukuinage J9w Kinkaiyama (6-7) J1e Wakatoba (4-9) tsukiotoshi J7w Wakanoyama (7-6) Makuuchi M13e Takanowaka (4-9) yoritaoshi M15w Tokitenku (6-7) M16w Katayama (8-5) yorikiri M12w Tokitsuumi (3-10) M10e Futeno (9-4) yorikiri M17w Toki (6-7) M9w Kyokushuzan (11-2) okuridashi M16e Tamakasuga (7-6) M14e Kotoshogiku (8-5) yorikiri M9e Ama (8-5) M8w Asasekiryu (7-6) yorikiri M12e Buyuzan (6-7) M8e Kotonowaka (6-7) yorikiri M15e Takekaze (8-5) M17e Shimotori (5-8) yorikiri M7w Jumonji (5-8) M13w Toyonoshima (5-8) okuridashi M7e Takamisakari (4-9) M6e Dejima (7-6) yorikiri M11w Kisenosato (5-8) M5w Kakizoe (7-6) oshidashi M11e Aminishiki (7-6) M4w Iwakiyama (3-10) hikiotoshi M10w Toyozakura (4-9) M3w Kyokutenho (5-8) yorikiri M2e Kokkai (4-9) M3e Miyabiyama (6-7) oshidashi M1w Roho (5-8) M1e Tamanoshima (5-8) oshidashi M4e Kaiho (3-10) M5e Kotooshu (9-4) uwatenage K1w Wakanosato (6-7) K1e Kotomitsuki (11-2) oshidashi M6w Hokutoriki (7-6) S1w Tosanoumi (4-9) tsukiotoshi M2w Tochinonada (3-10) O1w Tochiazuma (11-2) oshidashi O2w Chiyotaikai (10-3) Y1e Asashoryu (13-0) oshidashi S1e Hakuho (8-5) Day 14 Juryo J13e Daimanazuru (7-6) J14w Maikaze (5-8) J12e Sumanofuji (4-9) J8w Tochinohana (11-2) J6e Daishodai (8-5) J13w Kotokasuga (7-6) J14e Dewanosato (2-11) J6w Asofuji (5-8) J11w Chiyotenzan (7-6) J5w Kitazakura (6-7) J4e Senshuyama (8-5) J7w Wakanoyama (7-6) J7e Kasuganishiki (7-6) J4w Otsukasa (7-6) J3e Takanotsuru (4-9) J12w Harunoyama (7-6) J5e Kasugao (6-7) J3w Hakurozan (8-5) J2e Tochisakae (11-2) J11e Kanbayashi (6-7) J10e Yotsukasa (6-7) J2w Tamaasuka (8-5) J1e Wakatoba (4-9) J9w Kinkaiyama (6-7) J9e Kobo (7-6) J1w Ishide (6-7) Makuuchi M14e Kotoshogiku (8-5) M17w Toki (6-7) M12e Buyuzan (6-7) M15e Takekaze (8-5) M16e Tamakasuga (7-6) M11w Kisenosato (5-8) M15w Tokitenku (6-7) M10w Toyozakura (4-9) M8e Kotonowaka (6-7) M17e Shimotori (5-8) M16w Katayama (8-5) M8w Asasekiryu (7-6) M7e Takamisakari (4-9) M13e Takanowaka (4-9) M13w Toyonoshima (5-8) M7w Jumonji (5-8) M6e Dejima (7-6) M11e Aminishiki (7-6) M5e Kotooshu (9-4) M10e Futeno (9-4) M9w Kyokushuzan (11-2) M5w Kakizoe (7-6) M4e Kaiho (3-10) M12w Tokitsuumi (3-10) M2e Kokkai (4-9) M3e Miyabiyama (6-7) M1e Tamanoshima (5-8) M2w Tochinonada (3-10) M6w Hokutoriki (7-6) M1w Roho (5-8) K1e Kotomitsuki (11-2) M9e Ama (8-5) M4w Iwakiyama (3-10) K1w Wakanosato (6-7) M3w Kyokutenho (5-8) S1w Tosanoumi (4-9) S1e Hakuho (8-5) O1w Tochiazuma (11-2) Y1e Asashoryu (13-0) O2w Chiyotaikai (10-3) Edited May 20, 2005 by Doitsuyama
Fujisan Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 If Shuzan won his last 2 matches komusubi promotion would be a given I think. (Clapping wildly...) Gonna lose tomorrow against Kakizoe though I think. (Doing a wave...)
Guest Kyuzo Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 Well, barring some sort of miraculous sumo on the part of Taikai tomorrow, I think it's safe to say the Yokozuna has this yusho locked up tight. --Kyuzo
AsaMoe Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 I think it's safe to say the Yokozuna has this yusho locked up tight. Though i am of your opinion i would say, the chance for a Tochiazuma yusho is higher that at the start of the basho.
Taka Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 (edited) Personally I can't wait for this one: K1e Kotomitsuki (11-2) M9e Ama (8-5). Could very well turn into a truly excellent bout and much kudos to the torikumi makers for making it happen! Edited May 20, 2005 by Taka
Asashosakari Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 (edited) I think one could make a case for a 9-6 Kakizoe to get an available sanyaku slot before an 11-4 Kyokushuzan, but of course that first requires Angelina to win both remaining bouts and Shuzan to lose both. Good scheduling to put them against each other tomorrow. Edited May 21, 2005 by Asashosakari

Ama was handled like a lightweight.
