Shomishuu Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Aside from one's personal view of where Asashoryu's blow to Kotooshu belongs on the nasty-meter -- has anyone ever seen anything like it before? (Eating...)
aderechelsea Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I've seen worse impacts before but not such a reaction, like Kotooshu's. That's what is amazing. His "glass jaw" as boxers say. To give him credit he is not that many years in sumo to develop a resilience (is that the correct spelling?) to such hits yet ... he will eventually. look at the slaps Kaiho was feeded in the recent past against the likes of Tochiazuma, Kokkai, Takanowaka , etc .... he rarely goes down from those anymore. He just forget parts of his childhood (as he said himself) ... (Eating...)

Kintamayama Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 And this: http://www.banzuke.com/~movies/nagoya2003/...aio_tochiazu.rm
Zentoryu Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Asashoryu's battle with Tochiazuma a while back was pretty brutal, with Tochi winning after having his nose bloodied. Kotomitsuki's KO of Takanowaka was something too. And of course the above mentioned Kaio/Tochiazuma clash from 2003.
Onnagumo Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Does anyone remember that "boxing match" between Musoyama and Chiyotaikai? I don't remember exactly what year that was, but it must have been before 2002, when I started saving every basho on videotape.

There are no movies from that bout on banzuke.com and it wasn't on the highlights from the basho either on the NSK webpage, but it was quite a match... Edited May 18, 2005 by Yubiquitoyama
TokyoBelle Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Hello - I'm new to the forum. I was sitting in the takari-seki seats yesterday and the noise from Kotooshu's face sounded as if something popped - possibly a broken nose? Definitely a different level of force than any other bout yesterday!
Zuikakuyama Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Welcome to the forum. Please do make an introduction of yourself in the members forum. I'll be intersting to see if Koto sports a black eye today to ruin poster-boy looks.

Don't remember which basho though. There were some comments in the recent posts regarding Musayama's retirement.
Kishinoyama Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 Asashoryu's battle with Tochiazuma a while back was pretty brutal, with Tochi winning after having his nose bloodied. asashoryu actually knocked out one of tochiazuma's front teeth in that bout <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And Tochi won the match!!
