Oikeassa Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I admit to disliking henkas in most cases, but in sanyaku they really seem out of place to me. So what about Days 10 & 11--who are really the biggest culprits? Is Tosanoumi just an idiot for being unprepared (and going makekoshi in the process) or are these two (supposed) ozekis just disrespectful of their rank?
Bataa Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 3rd time happening to Tosanoumi this basho..does that tell u something? But i agree with u it's ugly to see ozekis doin henka. ;-)
Araiwa Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I just would be interested what Tosanoumi thinks about the last two days. Surely something like "Why the heck got I out of bed and prepared myself for fighting all day?" This is getting really ridiculous. Poor, poor, Tosanoumi...I was pretty sure he would beat Taikai but at least Tosa still is THE dohyo diver. It is getting boring to be angry about henka.
Shimpu Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I agree ;-) There is many way to win... but the result is the same! If Tosanoumi or anybody is not good enough to prevent henka - sorry it is only his foult...
Azumashida Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Yes, I'm more disappointed by Tosanoumi than by the two ozeki. It's too easy for him to complain about his opponents' "lack of dignity", I think his first job should be to make sure not to lose stupidly. I perfectly understand why his opponents would opt for henka since 1) it always works with him and 2) he probably has the fiercest tachi-ai there is, so it is understandable that they'd rather avoid it. I think that if the opponents do it, it's also for Tosa to be more careful, and less deadly, at tachi-ai in their next meetings. IMHO it's not more unfair to go for henka than it is to go all out without any caution due to an assumption that henka should not be acceptable for an ozeki. Tosa deserves what he's getting and the blame for terrible spectacle should chiefly be put on HIM.
Jakusotsu Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 he probably has the fiercest tachi-ai there is, so it is understandable that they'd rather avoid it.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> ...and still Asashoryu absorbs it with ease. Don't expect any henka tomorrow, but don't expect a win for Tosanoumi either.
Guest Kyuzo Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 he probably has the fiercest tachi-ai there is, so it is understandable that they'd rather avoid it.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> ...and still Asashoryu absorbs it with ease. He'll take Tosanoumi's tachi-ai and throw it right back at him. --Kyuzo
Asashosakari Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 On the other hand, I'd pay good money to see Tosanoumi's facial expression if Asashoryu were to make it 3 for 3 among the top rankers and henka him too. (Eating...) I don't much like henka in sanyaku either (note: yesofcourseit'savalidtactic), but Tosanoumi really needs to ask himself why he's fallen for it multiple times this basho.
