Kintamayama Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 腰部筋筋膜炎 Loin muscle sinew mambrane inflammation (???), but someone else will translate the medical term. He had himself checked today. Doctor said to ice the area and wait and see how bad the pain is tomorrow.
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 (edited) Don't know how such diagnosis can be made like that but it could be much better than worsening or flaring up of the old flipped disc turmoil. The reason for the excessive worry of mine was the fact it looked much worse than he usually showed and also his comment of "Different pain that before, hope it won't get any worse". Already feared he would develop cauda equina syndrome (major balagan and fadicha) and undergo immediate surgery and intai. I guess not...but this mysterious fascia inflammation is quite peculiar. Must be a muscle injury then..maybe? His "Karada ga ugoite"-days in this basho are over though. Kokkai is the worst possible foe at this time too. He will be a stiff standing oversized duck there tomorrow if there won't be a miraculous healing during the night. Too bad, too bad, way too bad. Edited May 12, 2005 by Kaikitsune Makoto

madorosumaru Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Although it has to do with fascia in a different part of the anatomy, this may give you an idea of fascia inflammation. Sports fans would remember that both superstars Luis Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers are/were plagued by "plantar fasciitis," the inflammation of the fascia in the foot near the heel.

madorosumaru Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 From USA Today: Jan. 4 Kobe Bryant said yesterday he's still bothered by plantar fasciitis in his left foot, according to the LA Times. "It'll heal up in the offseason," Bryant said. "Right now, it's good enough where I can just play through it. Despite all the minutes I've been playing, it's gotten better. That's a great sign." Nevertheless, I should have said, among all things Bryant is/was plagued with . . . (Nodding yes...)

Kintamayama Posted May 13, 2005 Author Posted May 13, 2005 (edited) A hospital official said KaioU's chances of returning this basho are slim. "It will be difficult. He should be very careful", said the hospital director. The diagnosis has been changed now to 左脇腹 (left flank? help..) instead of the pelvic region (腰部) The Kyokai's infirmary director Mr. Yoshida added that if he were to be able to return, it would only be at the late stages of the Basho. He will go MK on day 13 and become kadoban for the seventh time, tying Chiyotaikai and Konishiki, unless he reappears and manages three more wins. He underwent tests for two hours at the hospital. "KaioU was complaining that he could hardly sleep last night because of the pain. The pain was so hard at times he could hardly breathe. You can't do Sumo just because you want to..", added the Director. Asked about a possible return, KaioU said, "The pain is excruciating, so I'll have to rest. At the present, I will submit myself to the medical treatment". Edited May 13, 2005 by Kintamayama

Kintamayama Posted May 13, 2005 Author Posted May 13, 2005 Excellent! This is a great way for us laymen to understand where and when.
Kishinoyama Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 16 - 脇腹 Wakibara - side of the abdomen <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Great graphic. This really helps those like me that are medically clueless.... (Exercising...)
madorosumaru Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 Some more on Kaio's injury. He actually tried to do asageiko yesterday. He put on his mawashi but, as reported earlier, he was unable to even sit down. He then went to an Asian Medicine Institute that he frequents for two hours of treatment--acupuncure and "seikotsu," a blend of osteopathic and chiropractic medicine. The therapist said that it would be highly unlikely for Kaio to return this basho. "He shouldn't force the issue. One can't wrestle by desire alone." Kaio indicated that he couldn't sleep because of the pain. "There's no two ways about it. The pain was so intense that we decided to drop out." Even after the treatment, Kaio had difficulty getting into the car. "My primary goal is to wrestle again. I have no choice [at this time] but to devote myself to the treatment."

Guest Kaio_lova_marla Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Awww.....he's always having health problems...and I reallie hate that..... ;-) :-P
sumofan Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Any news yet about a possible return of Kaio for getting 2 extra wins? (Whistling...)
kotooshu_bulgaria Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Unfortunately two wins will not be sufficient for Kaio, since he needs 8 and won 5 before going kyujo. You do the math... ;-)
Guest Kaio_lova_marla Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 He's not retiring, is he?? (Shaking head...) (I am not worthy...) (Shaking head...)
kotooshu_bulgaria Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Nobody said so yet... I just said that he would need three wins for a kachikoshi, not two...
