Mark Buckton Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Wnrt down with Petr this morn to asageiko at Musashigawa Beya. Observations in no particular order: All sekitori appeared as did Mienoumi / Musashigawa ooyakata. (had his cup of tea (flower patter cup with saucer) and left 30-40 mins later). Think he wanted a chat but Petr and I were busy watching the action - will catch up with him again. Dejima was there - still showing left shoulder bruising. Left calf very heavily strapped and right knee too. Lower right shin and claf still discolored. Musoyama was there in a mawashi - lent his chest a few times to Minaminoshima but no fights and a couple of others. Took over after Mienoumi left and when Musoyama left Buyuzan took over. Musoyama is very slim compared to before. Kakizoe - bit of weight work and legs only - no fights. Miyabiyamja sauntered in last - only sekitori to offer no prayers at the shrine / by far the most casual of greetings to the Ooyakata and Ozeki Wakanoyama - shouted a bit - butsukari chest lender for Sandanme and below. Buyuzan - went 10-1 with one loss coming to Bushuyama. He (GW) looks sharp - as sharp as Bushuyama can. Musashiryu gave it a lot of work - lost 3 to Buyuzan though. Ryu has badly taped knees - metal frame thingy. Musoyama's 'boy' is Yanagi. Interestingly - all sekitori gave water to Dejima though he gave it to no-one else. No sekitori gave water to Musoyama and all bar Buyuzan disappeared after 40 mins or so - downstairs to the gym - ?? degekio - ?? Minaminoshima came over and told me and Petr to 'stop pointing our feet at the dohyo' - code for 'let that economy class syndrome form fully before letting it go' Did so in English. Back on the bike and home by 10.10
Jejima Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Just curious.... Who stood on the left-hand side near to the viewing satge? This was where Musoyama always stood on a few times in the distant past when I went to visit the heya.

He warmed up with shiko and suriashi there but that was all he did. Most of the time he had was sitting in this part on a towel spread on the edge of the tatami stage or in the centre part of this edge. Edited May 2, 2005 by Petr

I'm not sure why, but I find that hard to imagine, for some reason. Thanks for the keiko report!
Mark Buckton Posted May 2, 2005 Author Posted May 2, 2005 (edited) regading the post above, Bzan was pretty vocal throughout in his giving of advice. Also, if I heard correctly, he was specifically sent for by Musoyama - having already done his warm-up he was off somewhere. A sign of things to come? (Shaking head...) Picked up a few of the Musoyama danpatsu posters (A4 size) which will be included in the Nagoya banzuke envelopes. Edited May 2, 2005 by Adachinoryu

(Shaking head...)

_the_mind_ Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 (edited) i didnt see mention of Musashimaru, was he not there? what does he actually do if anything in musashigawa? also from the discription Buzan sounded like he was working hard, was this the case? or was he just whipping up on the lower ranked guys? (In a state of confusion...) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> don't know why he mentioned it to be honest. I know the dohyo and feet thing by of Takasago, Azumazeki, Kasugano, Miyagino, Tamanoi to name a few I have been to recently nothing was said when visitors stretched their legs after a couple of hours on the zabuton - no zabuton even at Kasugano and at Azumazeki the poodle of Takamiyama has a thicker zabuton than the guests. Of course some middle eastern and Asian cultures have a similar thing but first time I've seen it in Japan - from a Tongan too! (Whistling...) The economy class thing I mentioned was a bit of a cynical thing about letting the clot develop fully before strectching out the legs to release it to cause danger. Think by that time we'd been there 2 hours and Musoyama had left - the ooyakata had gone - Minaminoshima felt 'responsible' for us aliens from afar - still, that was his house so we complied of course.

ilovesumo Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 (edited) Amazing just to think about the possibility to sit there and watch...envy you for that experience. Buyuzan as Oyakata?! Hm, why not. I allways thought that we shouldn't undervalue him. About Musoyama- ogenki desu ka? To slim means also to loose power, and, he did very fast like Takanohana also...Was he ok? (Just do not get it...) The photo of him with the poster scared me a bit... Edited May 2, 2005 by ilovesumo
_the_mind_ Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 ^^^ i agree i wish i was in a position to just pop up at a heya and watch practice. id be there everyday
Cammy Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I wish that Dejima wasn't looking so bad, I like him...hope that he is able to do well in the up coming Basho.
Zuikakuyama Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I wish that Dejima wasn't looking so bad, I like him...hope that he is able to do well in the up coming Basho. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You certainly have to give him an A for effort. I though he was going to retire in 2003 when he dropped down to M14, but luckily he pulled through. I always root for him in bashos.

After that loss last basho, where he looked injured by the yokozuna's powerful throw-down, he came back with an impressive winning streak.
_the_mind_ Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 why would that "piss-off" Asa? i doubt his mission in life is to injur all rikishi and send them out of sumo. especially the ones he beats all the time
Otokonoyama Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 ... i doubt his mission in life is to injur all rikishi and send them out of sumo. especially the ones he beats all the time <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who said anything about that? :-S Dejima stalled at the tachi-ai in their torikumi in the Osaka honbasho. It (the stalling) seemed to be a tactic the yokozuna didn't like, so he seemed extra aggressive in throwing down Dejima (probably to make a point). Dejima appeared injured (though I don't think/didn't say there was any intent to injure, merely a strong technique), but came back with a good winning streak for the next several matches. He's had trouble stringing together wins as of late, so maybe he needs a little more 'tough love' from Asashoryu to help him.
