The captain of the Sumo team from 東農大 (Agricultural college?? HELP!!) Takahashi has joined Tokitsukaze-beya and will enter Mae-zumo in May. He is 22, 1.80 meters and weighs 108 kilos. He graduated in Spring but delayed his entry by one basho because of "bad physical condition". No college title, but is considered a good oshi man. "Tochiazuma is my goal. I'll be doing my best", he said.

That should be Toukyou Nougyou Daigaku, Tokyo Agricultural University, i'd say.

Tochiazuma is his goal? well, if he delayed his entry by one basho due to injury or "bad physical condition," i'd say he's already off to a good start. :-)

Ouch! :-) Well, his next goal then should be to win yusho in all divisions, which might be a more impressive feat. B-)

His heya-choice should come as no surprise... That is the same college as Yutakayama (recently retired ex-Ozeki and ex-Tokitsukaze-rijicho), Minato-oyakata (ex-Ks Yutakayama) and Tokitsuumi went to... I wonder (and doubt) if he will make himself worthy of the Yutakayama-shikona himself...

Just for the sake of correctness, Noudai goes by the English translation "Tokyo University of Agriculture" on their website.

If the number of articles about him is any indication, this guy must be really hot..:

He fell ill with peritonitis (??) last May and had 50 centimeters of his intestines and 5 centimeters of his colon removed. I'm sure the in-house doctor wil explain this better..

In December he wasn't back on form and didn't win the All-Japan Championships. Yet he was determined to join Sumo, Maezumo and all notwithstanding. He still is not allowed to eat "hard" food or spicy food. His graduation thesis was called "Chanko nourishment analysis". "Yes, chanko is the best food for the body", he said.

Looks like...no, not what you're expecting now. (Holiday feeling...) He kind of looks like Musoyama, doesn't he?

I was afraid to bring that up, since I seem to see things no one else does..He is a dead ringer for Musoyama, for sure.

In this one, he looks even more like Musouyama..

And the guy on the left does as well..

This guy actually IS Musoyama, who had a good diet (or had 50 centimeters of his intestines and 5 centimeters of his colon removed) and a haircut in order to mislead Kokonoe oyakata into not recognizing him at the entrance tests.

i dont know... many sumo wrestlers seem to look quite bad in their teenage years .. asashoryu included.

asasekiryu & takanohana excluded. i don't know why. why?

Although no one really reacted to my first mention of the Tonodai-graduates' tendency to choose Tokitsukaze, I feel I should set the record straight... Not only the three mentioned above, but furthermore Shimotori and Tokitenku went to Tonodai and subsequently entered Tokitsukaze... In other words, Tonodai is pretty much the reason Tokitsukaze can keep being among the more succesful heyas...

Btw, I agree about him looking like Musoyama. There always has to be one there, I suppose ;-)

Peritonitis, as far as I know, is generally associated with a burst appendix. The appendix bursts, and the highly infectuous contents spill out amongst the intestines, usually causing peritonitis.
