Senpai Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 (edited) Well it looks about 95% certain that Asashoryu will get another Yusho (hopefully he'll wait until at least day 13 to claim it, so that I can watch it live!). Edited March 23, 2005 by Senpai
kotooshu_bulgaria Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Roho won't be facing the yokozuna, for Asashoryu will have to take on the three ozekis in the last three days. (Shaking head...) He will still have to work hard though, since he is up against Kaio tomorrow, and three more higher-ranked rikishi in the last three days. Nevertheless, a great basho for Roho and a possibility for komusubi promotion if he manages a win or two in the remaining days. :-/
kotooshu_bulgaria Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 (edited) Kotooushuu's first ever makekoshi today. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep, history in the making. (Shaking head...) I am not yet aware how disastrous this basho will be for Kotooshu and I still hope he piles up some victories until the end in order to cushion his fall, but he has been looking rather lackluster and uninspired in his sumo... And that's not the spirit to go for a shin-komusubi... (Shaking head...) Edited March 23, 2005 by kotooshu_bulgaria
Manekineko Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 And that's not the spirit to go for a shin-komusubi... (Shaking head...) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> On the other hand, it is more-or-less traditional for a shin-komusubi to loose all his marbles and make a mess of that basho... must be something in chikara-mizu. Of course, now I wait for the statisticians to point out all rikishi (besides Hakuho) who shone in their shin-komusubi/shin-san'yaku bashos... (Shaking head...)

Kashunowaka Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Personally I feel that using the highlight feature is even more illustrative. (Shaking head...) You asked for it II.
Zuikakuyama Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Thanks. It is very helpful. Seems that anyone who got KK or above at least became sanyaku regular or higher. Conversely, of those that did not get KK, only very few (Wakanohana III, Terao, Akinoshima, Kirishima, etc) achieved any success.
Chinonofuji Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Thanks. It is very helpful.Seems that anyone who got KK or above at least became sanyaku regular or higher. For example, Chiyonofuji went 5-10 and Mainoumi was also 2-13 in his debut. They did ok, too. More to the point, I think one could argue that this has been Kotooshu's first real test. He's hit the "wall" that's talked about, and this could be a good thing. He's raced up the banzuke so fast until now that he hasn't faced the adversity that many other sanyaku regulars probably faced earlier. Many wrestlers that became yokozuna had a few hard basho, it just happened pre-sanyaku debut. I think both Kotooshu and Hakuho are going through the growing pains others went through earlier. They're each finding their "level" now among the top rikishi. It will be interesting to see how each bounces back.

You let this sound like Chiyonofuji and Mainoumi are comparable. They aren't. Only in popularity contests.
