Manekineko Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 :-O for the job, madorosumaru... (Sign of approval)
madorosumaru Posted January 24, 2005 Author Posted January 24, 2005 Thanks, Manekineko. I wanted the fans to have some idea of what the rikishi go through. It's too easy for us to sit at home and spew out epithets and second-guess their every move. If Tochiazuma was a different man, he would now take Haru basho off to recover a bit, and return kadoban in Natsu. But if Tochiazuma was a different man, he'd be sekiwake still... I don't know about you, but I am impressed and worried at the same time - how long will he be able to walk through Hell?Asashoryu is a great yokozuna. But Tochiazuma is an epical rikishi - deserving of a song. A paean for his pain? (First prize...) You are so right. The recent bunch of ozeki may not have been all we had hoped for as far as their sumo was concerned, but we have been blessed with a group of very special men. Tochiazuma's virtues are as you indicated. The recently retired Musoyama was, by all accounts, a noble warrior repected by everyone for his straight-forward approach to the sport. Kaio is renowned for being the nicest person around. With his incredible strength, he could have left a whole slew of broken bodies in his wake, but he always took the high road. Chiyotaikai has shown a true champion's courage and resilience in overcoming injuries and kadoban over and over again.
