Jonosuke Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 Just heard that Ama is going on kyujo as of today, Day 14.
Araiguma_Rascal Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 (edited) At 8-5 he at least has a kachi-koshi, although it's a shame he doesn't have a chance for an even better record. They said it's an injury to the tailbone. Freebee for Buyuzan to go 9-5 Edited January 22, 2005 by Araiguma_Rascal
Guest Cal Golden Bears Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 i feel bad for him. But still 8-7 is not bad at all for him :-/
Doitsuyama Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 Why does he retire? Is he hurt, or what? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, he decided that 8 wins are exactly what he wanted. So, after getting his eighth win against Asasekiryu he called it quits. Get used to that from him in the future.

So he wants to start as a Juryo again to avoid a make koshi...

Coo-cook Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 He has done quite well considering his injury. If you are hurt at tail bone it's a hell, believe me....the pain is much worse than hurting your fingers , knees or elbows. He has done his duty to his fans showing good enjoyable sumo. Good luck for next basho. He is the best rikishi at moment ....nobody, even Asashoryu is not close to him.
madorosumaru Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 (edited) Ama went on the kyujo list with a severe lower back pain. He had hurt his tailbone earlier in the tournament but kept on wrestling despite the pain. Edited January 23, 2005 by madorosumaru

I will be totally surprised if he gets more than 6 wins next basho.Get real. Edited January 22, 2005 by Kintamayama
sumofan Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 If you are hurt at tail bone it's a hell, i know. been there done that. even though a tatami cushions the fall, if you land on your bottom the wrong way, it can take more than a month for the pain to go away. He is the best rikishi at moment ....nobody, even Asashoryu is not close to him. time for a reality check (Showing respect...) . if that were so, ama would not have lost any bout. i think the leaderboard shows clearly the difference between Asa and the rest of the rikishi. Asa got 5 yusho last year. 2 of which are zensho. he is going for another zensho tomorrow, so somehow i do not think Ama is better than Asa.
Kashunowaka Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 (edited) I wonder if I should say that Kotoryu is the best rikishi ... (Showing respect...) Edited January 22, 2005 by Kashunowaka
Jakusotsu Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 I wonder if I should say that Kotoryu is the best rikishi ... (Showing respect...)<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Isn't that obvious? Just look at him destroying Kisenosato - a marvel! (Sign of approval)

But, what I ment was that Ama is the guy who brings most out of his "possible" potential. In this respect, he is really the best. That's why people get surprised when he wins more than 6. The question is, how will he do higher up the Banzuke.. 6.

sumofan Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 I wonder if I should say that Kotoryu is the best rikishi ... (Applauding...) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nah, Takamisakari is the greatest ;-) . he has to fight despite being a mr. nice guy.
Fujisan Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 I dont know about that but I'm gonna give him a good kicking if I ever meet him :-) I didn't know he was Kyujo and it cost me a win in Sekitori quad.
Coo-cook Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Nah, Takamisakari is the greatest . he has to fight despite being a mr. nice guy. Good one. O.K. I'll give up the Ama hype..... The question is, how will he do higher up the Banzuke.. 6. Probably, he would hit "the wall" first....and then I don't know. Actually, I don't expect him becoming sanyaku rikishi. If he can compete as a makuuchi regular...that would be something.

If he can compete as a makuuchi regular...that would be something. If you look at other historical examples, such as Terao, there is no reason why he could not become sanyaku a couple of times in his carreer.
