Tony Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 (edited) Chiyohakuhou defeated Bushuyama this morning. Thanks to this 5th victory should be promoted in juryo for haru basho. It's a great day for Kokonoe-beya. He would be the fourth sekitori produced by Kokonoe oyakata ( after Chiyonowaka, Chiyotaikai and Chiyotenzan ). If Chiyotenzan stays sekitori in march, it would be the first time since january 1997 that Kokonoe beya would have three sekitori in the banzuke. Edited January 16, 2005 by Tony
Zuikakuyama Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 I just noticed today that he looks quite a bit like chiyonofuji.
Chiyozakura Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 (edited) To be sure of promotion he should win one more. With bad luck even 6 wins could be too few if there are few demotions from Juryo and Tochinohana and Ushiomaru continue to win. Ushiomaru with 6-1 and Tochinohana with 5-2 should be ahead of a 6-1 Chiyohakuho. Even a 4-3 Kotokasuga has better chances... So te speak of a sure promotion is way too early. But of course he is on a very good way to finally reach sekitori. Edited January 16, 2005 by Chiyozakura

I'd be shocked though if 6-1 wasn't enough. The promotions and demotions have a way of working themselves out in most cases, although it might take a larger than usual number of exchange bouts this basho to achieve balance.
Elenrian Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 Chiyohakuho = Chiyonofuji + Hakuho? :-O Sounds impressive...
Kashunowaka Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 We were briefly discussing his name in chat today. His shikona is quite long to type, and he can't be nicknamed "Chiyo" or "Hakuho" ... "Chico" was one suggestion which I think sounds pretty good.
Araiguma_Rascal Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 According to Kokonoe-beya's web page, Chiyohakuhou is 21, 179 cm, 115 kilos (seems a little light, maybe it's just that the web page hasn't been updated recently?). Here is his history He started in the natsu basho of 1999, at the age of 16. Chiyotenzan has not been doing too well recently, however. He might drop out of Juryo. Right now he is ranked at Juryou 13 with a 4-4 record. Chiyohakuhou might possibly switch places with him.
Tony Posted January 16, 2005 Author Posted January 16, 2005 Chiyohakuhou is 21, but 1,80m and 121kg now.
Yubiquitoyama Posted January 16, 2005 Posted January 16, 2005 Chiyohakuho = Chiyonofuji + Hakuho? (I was stupid...) Sounds impressive... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or maybe Chiyonowaka + Shoho = less impressive (Blushing...)
Tony Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 Chiyohakuhou defeated Onishi and won his sixth bout in a row. Juryo's promotion is very probable, now. Omedetou!

Omedetou! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I suppose a Makushita yusho is also a possiblity. EMs51 Kimurayama is also 6-0, so I suppose they will face each other in 2 days? Chiyotenzan lost to Toki today and has a 4-7 record. So unless he wins his last 4 he will probably be demoted from Juryo at the same time as Chiyohakuho is promoted.

Araiguma_Rascal Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 Has Chiyohakuho has his bout today yet? The Juryo have already started, but I can't find the Makushita results yet. Does it come after Juryo because the Makushita championship is on the line?
Tony Posted January 21, 2005 Author Posted January 21, 2005 Makushita yusho! Chiyohakuhou defeated Kimurayama! Great basho for him and soon sekitori. Ouahh!
Kashunowaka Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 I suppose that Chiyohakuho has been Chiyotaikai's tsukebito?
