shimodahito Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 good day all, i'm starting to wonder if tochiazuma does better as a sekiwake. not counting tournaments that he withdrew or had absences, can anyone track down his record and compare his winning percentage as a sekiwake with his winning percentage as an ozeki? -shimodahito
Doitsuyama Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 good day all, i'm starting to wonder if tochiazuma does better as a sekiwake. not counting tournaments that he withdrew or had absences, can anyone track down his record and compare his winning percentage as a sekiwake with his winning percentage as an ozeki? -shimodahito <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can't really compare that as this are two pretty different periods in his life. Anyway, as Sekiwake he was 106-59 (64%) and as Ozeki 88-47 (65%) in such basho. So, no significant difference.
Manekineko Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Well, I haven't seen his latest losses, but now he can only afford another two for the amazing and historical second instant ozeki re-promotion... Your thoughts? I am undecided... I wonder if he's starting to feel fatigue, both physical and mental. It would be a wonderful thing if he would make it, but he may not have the strength left. As I suck in torikumi predicting, can someone make an educated guess who he still had to face? KaioU is out for the basho, so that leaves Asashoryu, Miyabiyama, and..? For me, this is *the* drama left in this basho... and I wonder at the silence about it.

For me, this is *the* drama left in this basho... and I wonder at the silence about it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think I mentioned elsewhere my thought about the silence: expectations are really low. The loss against Iwakiyama didn't help either; it would have been good to have a win from that bout. Torikumi: well, who is left? Kotooshu on day 11. Asashoryu and Miyabiyama for sure. Then it is Tochinonada + everyone below Osh to choose from, except Kyokutenho. Take your pick ... Three wins doesn't seem like an unreasonable task. I agree that there isn't much drama left in the basho, but I find it hard to get excited over yet another attempt from Tochiazuma at reclaiming the ozeki title. Apologies to his fans, but the feeling is similar to when Takanonami made it back with 10-5. That could be another reason for the silence.
Jakusotsu Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Regarding Osh vs. Azuma tomorrow: I'm not one of Tochiazuma's biggest fans, and I usually root for Kotooshu, but I guess Osh will have big trouble winning against the control freak. Azuma is just not the kind of opponent he fancies. (...and then of course Osh will win by uwatenage and raise one eyebrow at me (Going kyujo...) )
