In both of Wakanosato's matches so far he has been in control from the beginning and has looked very strong.

I think I like his promotion chances after this basho (certainly better than Kaio's chances after today). He may even contend for the yusho.

...and have his own Yokozuna run in Haru.

NOW you are dreaming. A yusho at Sekiwake just isn't the start of a Tsuna run. I believe it's not possible to spend only one basho at the Ozeki rank.

Yes, poor Wakanosato will have to wait for yokozuna coronation until after the Natsu basho! (Sign of approval) ;-)

I liked Wakanosatos bouts so far. The better man won today, he was simply stronger than Kotooshu. Man, I just hope he'll make it ;-)

(and I personally mean just the Ozeki run ;) )

I write this without haveing investigated the stats but it seems like every other rikishi in recent years who spent so much time in sanyaku eventually made ozeki. Kaio, Musoyama, and Dejima as well as Tochiazuma all loitered around for long enough that ozeki-hood seemed inevitable and so they all eventually made it.

Some of these marginal ozekis grew into their role and performed at a a hgiher than sekiwake level for a while while others couldn't keep it up for long. I'm certain that Wakanosato will get there one day barring serious injury but the big question is, what caliber of ozeki will he be?

I'd hate to see him promoted only to flounder around pathetically before plunging into Dejima-like irrelevance. Let him advance upon raising his sumo to a higher level as Kaio did when he was promoted.

Ozumo needs more ozekis anyway so lets get on with it and have some new blood up there. I'm sure that Hakuho will make it before long even if no one born in Japan can do it but that would not be good for the popularity of the sport.

Yes really bad sumo. Most of Wakanosatos losses come from pulling, like he showed today. Kakizoe just had to move on forward, an easy win for him. So will Wakanosato blow it again? Two years ago in Kyushu he lost the same way to Tochiazuma in a rematch.

Really bad sumo! (Oops! )

Still, if he can win the next two, he'll be back on the pace he needs to be. He's lost once of his better chances by stupidity though. No more silly losses allowed! He must save those for the likes of Asashouryuu and and other sanyaku rikishi.

Or from Chiyotaikai.

But seriously, I don't think most of his losses come from pulling. At least I can't sense a theme of such sort.

You lot put the curse on him and cost me a good run in Chaingang, thats the last time I listen to you. (I am not worthy...) (Dripping sweat...)

Im still alive! lol, (not sure why but I had a better feeling picking kotooshu over hokutoriki than wakanosato) lucky I guess....

Well today Wakanosato was much better than against Kakizoe. He had a good grip but somehow couldn't finish. It's no shame to lose against Tochiazuma, but Sato will not handle the pressure now. A loss against Shoryu and he would be 12-3 if he beat all other, very utopic...

No shame I suppose, but he needed to win to make up for the loss he shouldn't have had. :'-(

Meanwhile Tochiazuma only needs 10 wins to regain his former rank, which looks pretty realistic now.

Kadoban Chiyotaikai also looks in good shape to get a kachikoshi.

thanx, my guess is Wakanosato's hatsu basho record would be 11-4 (You are going off-topic...)

This is getting embarrassing... :-/

Wakanosato never lost to Iwakiyama, he was 6-0 against him. Till today...He cost me a shiroboshi in s4 and in sumogame. (Shaking head...)

the edited title says it better ...

after day 2 i was saying to a friend of mine (who i try to lure into sumo) that Wakanosato looks really good and that he is in getting close to Ozeki ...

now i look like a complete fool ... >:(

Maybe it would be "good" if Wakanosato goes 6-9 to M1 or 2. Don't take me wrong, i like Wakanosato and so. But maybe it would switch something on in him, like a shocktherapy that what he does is not enough for Ozeki.

The very same story happened to me. Even yesterday I promised to my friend he would see the real Wakanosato strength against Kokkai ;-)
