It has been a good basho

Recommended Posts

This basho has been rather kind to me for a change, even giving me a little bit of success, only one make-koshi for a change (a lot of 8-7 saved me!), and the one or other yusho going my way.

Daily games:

Bench Sumo: 8-7 at Sekiwake 2w. The basho was better than 8-7 as I had the second most points scored in Makuuchi and outscored the opponents 171-163. Good basho. (Sign of approval)

Sumo Game: 8-7 at M1e. Like Bench Sumo a good basho with second most points in Makuuchi, one behind Kintamayama, outscoring opponents 109-103. This game also saw the bout of the basho. Forget Hakuho-Asashoryu, here comes Kintamayama-Doitsuyama on day 10: The two alltime point leaders take it on each other, very important bout for Kintamayama who is kadoban and 4-5. They slug on each other, posting 9 wins both. Only one more player in all divisions had 9 wins on that day with a worse tie-breaker, so Kintamayama and Doitsuyama had the best score on that day from all 168 players. The better tie-breaker gave that to Kintamayama. Kaio decided that bout as a Kaio-win would have given Doitsuyama a 10-9 win. I still bet Kaio himself regrets this loss more than I. (Blinking...)

ISP: 8-7 at M5w, with a downslide from 8-3. First time membership of Guessbusters. Inc. makes this basho memorable.

Tippspiel: 8-7 at M3e, stopping a series of make-koshi basho on the last day. I guess 8-7 could even mean a small demotion.

Seki-Toto: 8-7 at Ozeki West. No good score for an Ozeki, but I guess I'm not kadoban next basho with the win on day 15 (you never know with sadistic Zenjimoto!) I had 304 points, but can't say what this is worth as the point stats go only to tenth place which was 312 points. Still, the sum of daily median scores was 296,5 so I guess I wasn't that bad actually.

Seki-Quadrumvirate: 9-6 at M8w. I'm very happy as this is one of the games most difficult to score a KK. As shared 9th to 28th this should give even 0.15 points for the SB Masters...

CyberSumo: 2nd of 57 participants. ;-) Sadly not counting to the SB Masters Series. (Weeping...)

Chaingang: Out on second day. :-|

Yosotaikai: 9-6 as M23w, which isn't that good. Even slightly below average and could mean a small demotion.

Pre-basho games:

Hoshitori: 15-0 at Komusubi West. :-D Right, I won my own game... The most important game in the Sumo Game Universe, of course. At least the oldest. ;-)

Upside Down Hoshitori: 11-4 as Ozeki kadoban. Anything saving an Ozeki rank is ok...

Roto-Sumo: 10-5 as Sekiwake 1e, 8th in Makuuchi. A good result, but I guess not good enough for Ozeki promotion. My last three basho: S1e 9-6, S1e 11-4 and now S1e 10-5. Call me the Wakanosato of RotoSumo.

Seki-Oracle: 10-5 as K4w, 10th overall. Very good, another 0.5 points for SB Masters. :-D Makuuchi division in this game is quite hard.

Fantasy Sumo: Shared 11th to 14th out of 188 players as Komusubi South 2. If anyone from Fantasy Sumo is reading this, please re-consider your banzuke strategy. It's too funny and not really related to the games... Besides, the W-L scores are just too similar. But I can't complain with 14-1. I just suppose lots of players will have really high W-L scores this time.

Gunga's ISP: Shared 9th to 14th out of 116 players as Komusubi East. Another 0.5 points for the SB Masters...

Salarycap: Makuuchi yusho (15-0) as Komusubi West (yeah right, after an 8-7 as Sekiwake). (First prize...) I thought of no yusho chances as I don't have Asashoryu and the yusho bonus is quite big in this game. I guess double jun-yusho bonuses for 10-point Kaio and 9-point Hakuho adds up for a lot as well. Despite 15-0 only 32 wins over the last three basho, so probably no Ozeki promotion, but maybe next basho...

CiberSumo: Makuuchi yusho (13-2) as M9w with Doitsuyama. (First prize...) Furthermore 9-6 as J11w with Arekusandaa and 5-2 as Ms42e with Nichike. Also best heya as the sum of the three players. Sadly not included in the SB Masters. I see that the game concept gives some obstacles, but seeing how many players participate here, in principle it's a game worth of inclusion. I would suggest only taking the best rikishi in each heya which can be calculated easy enough. I'm pretty sure almost all heya are run from the same player anyway with the notable exception of SB Banzuke genius Zenjimoto. If you read that, Zenjimoto, let me point out that the idea of the game pretty much forbids multiple players running the heya, but rather is making one player form all three rikishi. If your opposition to including this game to the SB Banzuke is founded on you and Chiisabuke forming one heya, it's based on a wrong understanding of this game, if might say so plainly.

Pick the yusho winners: Shared 5th/6th out of 42 players.

Kumi: Shared 9th to 11th from 41 players in Makuuchi as M7e. Shukun-sho. 5th overall for Year 2004.

Yoso: Shared 2nd to 3rd from 41 players in Makuuchi as M11e. 7th overall for Year 2004.

Juryo Game: Shared 17th to 20th (8-7) from 41 players in Makuuchi as M5w. 7th overall for Year 2004.

Taka Yoso Quiz: 4-11. This game can be quite hard. I got promoted from Juryo to Makuuchi 17e last basho with a 5-10, but 4-11 quite probably means a return to Juryo...

Taka G1 game: 12-3 Juryo yusho as J1w. (First prize...)

Paper Oyakata: 13-2 Juryo yusho as J38w. (First prize...)

Infoseek: Shared 1st out of 39 players. (First prize...)

Norizo-Cup: 31st out of 88 players (8-7) as Makushita 7e.

Well, good basho, but in games not so hot.

CG- out on day 1 (First prize...)

ISP - make-koshi, partly due to lazyness on day 1

Bench - 9-6, no complaints there!

UDH - 0-15 :-D That's what you get for picking two sansho winners in your team (among others) :-|

Hoshi - after whole basho of hugging 9-10 win border, I end up 7-8! ;-) :'-(

Juryo - sucked. Deservedly so.

Ciber sumo - 3-4 for all. I'm satisifed

Kumi - mk again. One day I'll get this game!

That's it.

One of my better basho in recent memory, I think...let's see.

Pre-basho:

Hoshitori: 60th of 188, 10-5...I really would have liked an 11-4 here to have a shot at Ozeki promotion after Hatsu, but oh well. Sw -> Sw (Weeping...)

UDH: 20th of 134, 12-3. Not bad for a game in which I've so far done nothing of note. M6 -> Ke (Sign of approval)

Rotosumo: 1329 pts. and a rather bad 2-5 record...my Maegashira picks were pretty much all crap, what with Tenho, Shimotori and Futeno in there. ms11e -> who knows, way below ms20 most likely. At this rate, I'll never make it out of Makushita and my hatsu-dohyo Jonokuchi yusho will remain my crowning achievement here. (Depressed...)

Salarycap Sumo: 1934 pts. for 24th of 67 in Makushita, 8-7. All thanks to having both the yusho winner and one of the jun-yusho winners (Kaio). I shudder to think what my record would have been if Kaio had lost on senshuraku. ms33w -> something a bit better (First prize...)

Seki-Oracle: 562 pts., joint 19th overall (of 150), 9-6 in Makuuchi. As Doitsuyama said, it's damned hard to score really well in Makuuchi in this game. M3e -> M1 probably, unless Zenjimoto feels like having 9 Komusubi again. (First prize...)

PTYW: jun-yusho with 69 pts. :-| - missing the top spot only because Wakakirin didn't feel like he needed kachi-koshi on senshuraku...grumble. Still, I can't stop smiling that there actually is a game now in which all the time wast...err, spent paying attention to the lower divisions is actually good for something. (Blinking...) Sd4 -> Ms2, probably ;-)

Dailies:

Chaingang: Out on Day 2, not much to say about it I guess. Hard to believe I actually used to get Superbanzuke points from CG. (First prize...)

Seki-Quad: In the yusho competition until day 13, but ran out of decent picks and got 2 more losses at the end...9-6 in a game that's really hard. Only my 2nd kachi-koshi in 5 attempts, so I'm not complaining. J14w (geez, good timing for that KK) -> who knows, somewhere between J8 and J10 I think. (First prize...)

Seki-Toto: Never really close to yusho after I got my second loss on Day 6, but final record of 11-4 ties my best-ever result, so that's good. Only so-so daily scores, but who cares when it results in 11 wins. Kachi-koshi streak since my game debut 2 years ago continues to be alive. (First prize...) M9w -> hopefully close to joi-jin, but I'll take anything that's better than last basho's banzuke "luck" (M10e -> M9w with a 9-6, geez.) :-D

I only play Sekitori-Oracle, but this went very well with Jun-Yusho, best Makushita and part of the winning Nations-Yusho team :-|

Just a pity that the bashos last 15 days, since i was in the lead after 14 days ;-)

I had my first ever kachi koshi in bench sumo but I had to resort to threatening to make the entire jonidan division walk the plank on day 15 to get it.

Make koshi in every other game I played this time :(

I hab a bad Basho. I didn't finish in the top ten in any game, so no points for the Super Banzuke Masters for me and I was the defending Champion.(Shaking head...)

Most disappointing for me was Rotosumo were I finished 7-8. It is my first mk since Natsu-Basho last year and the 13-2 record I had in Aki now is worthless, because I have to start my Ozekirun again from scratch in January.:'-((Pulling hair...)

The only highlights this Basho is my Promotion to Ozeki in Hoshitori and the Bench Sumo Juryo Yusho.(Enjoying a beer...);-)

I don't want to tell you about the disappointing results in the other games.(Censored)

This basho had to be a downer after last basho and it didn't dissappoint-

Going down------(Best first!)

Bench sumo 10-5 My 4th kk in a row losing out on the Yusho on day 15 but almost certainly my 2nd promotion in 3 basho. (Applauding...)

Fantasy sumo 10-5 My 6th KK in 6 basho in what I think is the easiest game to achieve a KK of all of them-Lets put it this way I finished 128th but with 7 KKs,A yusho(Asashoryu) and A sansho prize(Wakanosato) that makes 10 wins. (Applauding...)

UDH 9-6 (Applauding...)

Sekitori quad 9-6 My 4th KK in a row and keeping my Makuuchi place. (Applauding...)

ISP 8-7 Just scraped my 5th KK in a row on the final day and at Ms3 starting to see a light in the Makushitan black hole. (Applauding...) B-)

GTB 8-7 4 basho and 4 KK in this difficult game. (Shaking head...)

Sumo game 8-7 Didn't get the 100 wins I wanted to top the 'average 100+ basho' table with 100%-Dissappointed with that. :'-(

Sekitori toto 8-7 (Applauding...)

Juryo game 4-3 Possible re-promotion to Juryo division. (Applauding...)

Yoso KK(Watch this space)

Cybersumo 9th The same as last time but didn't miss a day this time. ;-)

Cibersumo Fujisan 4-3

Taikaisan 4-3

Asanosan 3-4

Possible promotion for Fujisan at Ms3 (Enjoying a beer...)

Rotosumo 7-8 Bye,Bye Makuuchi,it was far too brief. :'-(

Paper oyakata 6-9 Hmmmm?!?!? Dissappointing but nearly took the Reverse picks sansho though. (Sign of disapproval)

Salarycap 5-10 Been here before,my first 2 basho I finished with the same result. :'-(

Hoshitori 5-10 My plans for Ozekihood looking as good as Kaio's for Yokozuna. (Depressed...) (In a bad mood...) :'-(

Kumi MK (Watch this space)

Defence of my title didn't get out the blocks. :'-( :'-( :'-(

Gisp 83 wins. (Pulling hair...)

Not one game did I have a better record than last time but some good results though. (Sign of approval)

A totally pathetic basho, shame, shame, shame - even worse than the last one. I had a chance of winning the Yearly Super Banzuke, but blew it big time.

Pre-Basho Games:

Cibersumo: 9-6-Sekiwake, 7-8 Maegashira 11, -Juryo 5, 5-10-Juryo 3

Well..

Fantasy Sumo: 58th of 188.

GISP: Komusubi east, somewhere in the middle, touch and go..

Guess the Banzuke: - 7-8

Hoshitori: Haridashi Ozeki 9-6

UDH, Yokozuna 2-13......

Juryo Game: Maegashira 7, 9-6

Kumi: Komusubi east -disastrous MK.

Paper Oyakata Game: Juryo 23, 7-8

RotoSumo: Ozeki, 8-7, saved from demotion-pathetic

I was almost Yokozuna once..

Salarycap Sumo: Maegashira 4 west, 8-7

Sekitori Oracle : Maegashira 13, 5-10

Yoso: Sekiwake east- BAD MK,

G1- Japanese: Makushita 4, 10-5

G1-Guess, Japanese: Juryo 7, 5-10 ish..

Japanese GISP: 17th out of 39.

Norizou Cup, Japanese: Juryo 10, 9-6

Pick the Yusho winners: Sandanme???, 5-2

Daily Games:

Bench Sumo: Maegashira 5, 7-8

Chaingang: day 1

Cybersumo: 8th of 58

Deutsches Tipspiel: Komusubi west- Makuuchi yusho

ISP: Juryo 7 , 9-6

Sekitori Toto: Komusubi east, 4-11

terrible, terrible..

Sekitori Quadrumvirate: Maegashira 4, 4-11 - 8 straight losses

I stink in all of Zenjimoto's games..

Sumo Game: Ozeki, 10-5- saved kadoban and some honor- 3-0, 3-5, 10-5. Talk about a streaker. Led all divisions in total points, with Yokotanoharry- the old and wise rule!!

Hashi, Japanese: Maegashira 25, 11-4.

New Japanese game-Komachi- Kicked out because of offensive shikona.

Four games played (all pre-basho) and did well in all of them. That's gotta be a first for me.

RotoSumo: 11-4 from J14, my best ever showing in this game, and saving myself from the brink of demotion to the unpaid ranks.. ;-)

Juryo Game: I finished 25th out of some 58 players in the Makushita division. Probably good enough for KK, but not sure yet. Either way, it was a pretty decent showing, so I'm pleased.

Ciber Sumo: My first tournament playing this game. Amatsukaze went 6-1, Zentoriki went 5-2, and Zenfuji went 4-3. Collectively the heya finished 14th out of 91 teams, so again I'm happy. (Applauding...)

Kumi: (Pulling hair...) (Shaking head...) :'-( (Applauding...) YUUSHO!!!! One of my best ever performances in any game. First place in Makuuchi with a possible Zensho Yusho if I understand the win/loss distribution correctly. Also received the Gino-Sho. (Enjoying a beer...)

4 Succesful tournaments, I can't remember the last time I had such a good basho games-wise. Usually it's always of the "cup half full" variety.

I'm very happy with this basho's game scores. No yushos but a couple of prizes.

Dayly games:

Chaingang

Like so many others I went out on day 1.

Sekitoto

9-6, pretty good since I find this game one of the hardest I play.

Bench Sumo

A pretty crazy Juryo debut. I managed to get 8-7 with three wins on the last three days, but I also scored the highest overall score in my division and so I won both the Juryo Technique Prize and the KCC tournamen!

ISP

8-7, and glad to get a second Kachi Koshi in a row, since I usually have a hard time in this game.

Pre-Basho Games:

RotoSumo

I was in the lead for the first 7 days or so, then I slipped and finished 5th with 1504pts, an 11-4 score.

Got the technique prize in this one as well, after 135pts on day 6.

Conclusion

4 KK in 5 games.

36-24 total, excluding chaingang since I dont know how/if wins/losses are counted.

2 special prizes (both technique)

KCC champion

I'm satisfied with my performance ;-)

Quite a good basho for me, although for some reason I can feel some bitterness. Perhaps because I got no yusho this time, even though I was quite close in some cases.

Daily games:

Bench Sumo: 9-6 in makushita, for my 3rd basho in the "big game"; what's slightly worrying is that each basho my result seems to get worse by one win - which suggests I should still be (barely) kachi-koshi next time around, and... should hit the intai button after that. Looking forward to the ICF results, as ISI's senshuraku was... not that bad, by the looks of it. :-)

ISP: 9-6, like Shoryu in the Aki basho I was 9-2 and then the strange spell that was cast on the basho on day 12 totally disrupted the good dynamics I had been taking advantage of. 9-6 is fair enough anyway. :-)

Seki-Quadrumvirate: 8-7, happy to get a kachi-koshi in such a tough game, once again, thought that day 12 had destroyed my basho since I went from 7-4 to 7-7 (each time with 2 wins, which I managed to get... 6 times during the basho :-( ). But finally there was a miracle on senshuraku, I was lucky enough to select the only 3 guys I had left that were to win their bouts. Thought I had won the gino-sho, until I found out that the tie-breakers also were used for sansho. Was beaten to it by Kaikitsune. Tosi ep

I think that was one of the worst basho I ever had. Not only that i missed the deadline for one day (ironically I got there the most points in Cybersumo where I managed to get the entry in before the deadline), I also failed some promotions to upper divisions (and as usual) the Ozeki runs where I'm stuck at Sekiwake (as usual ;) ). I shouldn't have had faith in Kyokutenho and Asasekiryu.

I hope my Ichimon Oyakata forgives my insufficient performance. I'll promise to do hard keiko until next basho!

Pre-Basho Games:

Cibersumo: 5-2, 4-3, 2-5

Nearly the same score like last basho.

Fantasy Sumo: 10-5

Last basho I had a combined 33-12 record over last 3 basho, now its 32-13, which probably means the homely Sekiwake spot.

GISP: 86 Points.

Don't know if that's good, but I guess I'll be somewhere in the middle.

Guess the banzuke: -

Didn't play because lack of time, too bad, third consecutive missed basho.

Hoshitori: 7-8

Last basho I missed Ozeki by one win. This time 11-4 would have been enough, therefore I got a 7-8 record to be sure to destroy any promotion chances. ^^

Will take me at least 2 basho to get the road to a solid Ozeki-run again.

Juryo Game: 8-7

I thought I would go MK, but last two days saved me.

Kumi: Above the KK-line

The only positive thing this basho: I managed to get the overall win in the Kumo score competition 2004 (Laughing...). This times score should be around 8-7 or 9-6 and probably not enough for the Ozeki promotion (hrrmpf! ;) )

Paper Oyakata Game: 7-8

As usual a score between 6-9 and 9-6 ;).

RotoSumo: 7-8

Makuuchi Debut and like every other rookie got the mk ... but I'm glad that it is not worse than 7-8 :)

Salarycap Sumo: 7-8

Didn't pick Asashoryu and thought that I would get the usual 3-12 or 4-11 ...but I'm suprised (and happy ;) ) with the 7-8.

Sekitori Oracle: 4-11

I have to repeat my comment from the last "how did you do in the sumo games"-thread: I'm not saying that I know what I'm doing when playing this game.

Yoso: above KK-Line

Didn't expect it, during the basho I was most of the time below the KK-line and normally I stay there, but this time ... it was different ^^

Daily Games:

Bench Sumo: 9-6

Missed one day, lost to Fujisan, but I guess I can be satisfied ^^.

Chaingang: day 2

Played as usual the "hardcore mode" (= only 1x every rikishi)...goodbye on day 2 with choosing Tamaasuka.

Cybersumo: 2834 (7th)

"Quiet" basho this time.

Deutsches Tippspiel: 7-8

I had 7 points after 3 days (!) but somehow managed to get a 7-8 in the end. Great :). Should stay in upper Juryo which gives me the chance to try again next basho for makuuchi.

ISP: 4-11

Droning probably would have been more effective. I guess at J10 this means way back to makushita.

Sekitori Toto: 8-6-1

Managed KK on last day.

Sekitori Quadrumvirate: 4-10-1

No comment. Congratulations to the guy who picked Hakuho against Asashoryu.

Sumo Game: 7-8

This one hurts most. I was at the J1e banzuke spot with good chances for promotion and I failed to KK :(.

Finally I wanted to thank you to all for running those sumo games. Great work! (...and of course also a "Thank you" to the sumo server for being stable ^^).

Yes you beat me on day 15 for your KK and I lost my chance at the Yusho-

Missed one day, lost to Fujisan, but I guess I can be satisfied ^^.

That makes it 3-2 to me in our head to heads so far Anjoboshi and you have only beaten me at the Aki basho(2003,2004) which means you have 4 more bashos before you beat me again. ;-)

Dont worry though, next basho we will likely be in different divisions has it looks like I'm Juryo bound after this basho.

So come on and catch up my friend it wont be quite the same without you. ;-) ;-)

Here are my game results. I normally do not play that many games but this basho I tried Fantasy Sumo.

Bench Sumo (my main and favourite game):

As Juryo 2E: 8-7.

After a 1-5, 3-6 start I managed to be 8-6 on senshuraku but I lost due to trusting in Wakanosato beating Taikai. I may regret this because with one more win I would have been in Makuuchi for sure next basho. It's now in the hands of the banzuke makers.

But not too unhappy after bad start and my eight consecutive kachi kochi since entering bench sumo.

Chaingang

Out on day 3 (a new personal best!)

I really love this game because of the very limited effort it takes to enter your pick and the brutal but very clear rules!

Guess the Banzuke

12-3 (8th in Kyushu)

Not a 'real' game in my opinion because there are no objective standards that are followed by the banzuke committee so any guess is basically as good as another.

But I'm not complaining because I've shot up the rankings all the way to 4th.

Fantasy Sumo

13-2 (16th overall)

Not my favourite game but again a low entering barrier as it does not take that much time entering your line up. My debut basho.

So pretty good basho overall. Next basho I'm going to try Sekitori Quadrumvirate because I think the concept is just really awsome. Also a real challenge to get k-k.

So-so in the games for me this time. Two MK, and two all-time bests.

Chain Gang - Out on Day 4. I actually won this game once, on Day 7 in July 2003. (Sign of approval)

UDH - My nemesis game. After spending most of the tournament flirting with the KK-MK line, a 4-11 final result sent me J6 -> J7.

ST - 7-5 after Day 12 and ended up 7-8 at Ms6W. :-)

ISP - 9-6 at J11E, tied for 21st. About average for me.

Hoshitori - Second place on Day 8, Finished 14-1 in 5th place. An all-time best for me. Even better, this result took my ranking from J9 all the way up to M2! (I'm almost ecstatic) (Sigh...)

RotoSumo - 11-4 at J4W, 2nd place in Juryo division. Another all-time best for me, but could have been better had I not collapsed in the last 2 days. Still, I'm quite pleased. Tied for 2nd for Outstanding Performance (9 100+ point days) and sole 2nd in Fighting Spirit (107 wins) Congratulations to Unagiyutaka! (Welcome...)

I thought he wrote that because the W-L records haven't been sorted out yet... has Fantasy Sumo's?

No, but 1) you can work it out yourself, and 2) you don't have to, since everyone gets kachikoshi anyway. (Laughing...)

Roto Sumo (First prize...)

Wonder if I'll make sanyaku?

(12-3Y at M5W should normally be enough, but it looks as if the sanyaku is already quite crowded. I don't envy Zentoryu!)
