Could Hakuho ride upon the successful result from this tournament in a potential "ozekirun", given another two tournaments with sufficient results ... ? or would it be a case under the "Mickey 2002 rule"? = yet another equivalent result is needed..

Given that a M1 or M2 meets all the top guys, I can't really see the difference arriving at the same result from a sekiwake/komusubi position... or is it that the ranking in sanyaku, in itself, is some sort of "consistency meter" for higher promotions?

As an Ozeki run pretty officially covers a three basho period, I can't see Hakuho on a fast track as the first basho was just 8-7. Ok, a 13-2 in Hatsu would make it 33-12 over three basho which might or might nor be enough. A 14-1 or 15-0 yusho would really help the case. (Applauding...) I suspect he has the chance to be the first Ozeki in modern times without ever having been Sekiwake, but more realistically he has the chance to follow in Taiho's footsteps, who at exactly this point in the career (4th Makuuchi basho) had an 11-4 as Komusubi and followed up with 12-3 and 13-2-yusho as Sekiwake plus Ozeki promotion. Even those are big footsteps to follow...

I think Zingo was refering to Hakuho having just completed the first of the three runs (12-3 at M1), not the second already. Will a performance at M1 count or does it need to be a performance at Komosubi/Sekiwake? It seems to me that it counts, on the condition that there will be no question about his value at Ozeki rank (for example a 34 run would be OK, but maybe not a 33 run).

Xris reads me correctly... Considering this basho as the "first of three"... Implicitely I'm referring to the "mickey case 2002", with 34 in three, but the first a yusho from M2 followed by 9 and 12 at Sekiwake without promotion.

Is this the same case or?

The 9-6 was the problem. Hakuho's 12-3 from M1 is perfectly good as the first basho in an ozeki run. But if Hakuho gets the minimum, say 11-4 followed by 10-5, I think they will wait with the promotion, considering his age and short time in makuuchi.
