A few thougths of myself. Read it and criticize me:

After two years of Asashoryu dominance the scene moves again:

the old "Ozeki - guard" will give up:

After a long fight with Kadoban Musoyama lost and gave up forever.

Tochiazuma also lost, but not forever. He is still in his middle ages and can come back, even if demoted to Juryo. But he will not play a role in the big game in future sumo. His physique is to instable to compete at the very top level.

Chiyotaikai: in Hatsu he will either make mk and retire or make a good kk. in this case he will stay Ozeki for some more time, but will also play no role in the big game. His sumo is too predictable for top-class technicians. So in the long run, his best position will be a third place.

Kaio will realize, that he has lost his last chance for promotion and will go down. Two steps down and one step up. Untill he retires.

Wakanosato will become Ozeki in the near future and stay there for a longer time. All other rikishi currently in makuuchi and juryo will raise at most to Ozeki.

Sumo in the next three years will be dominated by two persons: the soldier Asashoryu and cool, calm and collecting (i like that) Hakuho. The position of the Kyokai will be a moderisation with Asashoryu and slowing down the development of Hakuho. They can be quite sure that Hakuho will become Ozeki in 2005 or 2006 and later on Yokuzuna. Slowing hin down will polarize the sumo community and will even lead to a new boom.

Asashoryu will win more fights against the field, while Hakuho will win more often in direct matches.

I for myself am uncool, so i will be on Asashoryus side (to be honst, i still hope for a comeback of Tochiazuma)

ok, and now start criticizing.

I'd really love to see Tochiazuma become yokozuna too. If only he could compete wrapped in an armor (of bandages?). Also, Wakanosato. (Sign of approval)

Good lord I'll hear none of that Tochiazuma talk! Keep dreamin son lol! He's done finished might as well retire at the rediculously young age of 28 because all he's gonna do is get hurt again. Also I dont agree with your head to head predictions in Asashoryu vs Hakuho, Hak will be lucky if its close to even, (they've only met twice thus far come on!) As for 2 -3 years in the future who knows for sure Kisenosato may become big or "Giku", thats an awful long time tho(Heck maybe even enough time for Toki to make a run at Yokozuna? LOL) either way time will tell, I have a feeling though that someone who weve never even heard of yet may rise through the ranks, interesting to ponder though.......-Ryu

Chiyotaikai Hatsu yusho (performs best when kadoban)

+

Chiyotaikai Haru yusho or at least in contention until senshuraku (due to my birthday falling on day 14)

=

Yokozuna Chiyotaikai

Alternative:

Elbow injury

Will to continue

=

Chiyotaikai Hatsu makekoshi = retirement and I won't have to put up with him any more

One interesting point is, that most people believe, that they are healthy, because they are so clever and that others are unhealty because they are not so clever. And that, if they capture injury or disease, than that its there bad luck.

Although i think that there are really people who deserve there bad luck, there are also many, who are just unlucky.

And i hope for you, Ryukaze, that you will come to this point without experiencing it yourself.

i cannot comprehend the "hype" around Ama.

what is this "he will be Komusubi,Sekiwake or even Ozeki" persistance ???

He is good for a "small" rikishi but ... come on !!!

he is not better than Kaiho in his good days and look how many times HE was a sanyaku ... (one)

and don't get me started on Roho ...

given the fact the most predictions for last basho were only so much hot air, i think it is safe to say that your predictions will probably also be wrong.

point of fact: who could have predicted asa's total dominance of sumo 3 years ago?

but if you should be psychic: could you please tell me next week's winning lottery numbers for the UK please ;-) ? (I sometimes play UK lottery because price money is much higher than in Belgium)

12,22,38,34,49,2

i want half of the profits .... ;-)

if the numbers in UK lotto are more than 6 then give me a shout and i'll be back with more

I totally agree. I'm happy if Ama can reach Terao's , Kaiho's or Aminishiki's level.

I'm fan of Ama because of his sumo and technics...but I don't expect sekiwake from him.

I always like a good, reasoned, polite talk between friends.

And i admit, that you are much more experienced and most likely know better. ( I am NOT ironic ).

No, I just wanted to wish you health and wisdom.

but if you should be psychic:

Unlucky as it is, but most of my predictions are wrong (for all the germans here: Deutsche Telekom).

But today i know about this and only make predictions, when they are for free.

But a quote of myself from 09/12/04, that is before Aki about the next tournament:

But often, when I thought something could become pretty boring, it turned out very exciting, so lets see.

Well, it is not that clear, but for myself, it is the best prediction i have ever made in sumo.

Not bad...

Hakuho on TOP-for sure,

old Ozeki down-yes

Wakanosato-Ozeki NEVER EVER :-(

But, you'd forget the newcomers! I'm Sure, Yoshida Kazuo will play a role, starting in Makushita soon????! (I think) and...I still belive (want to) in Kotomitsuki... (Laughing...)

Maybe, a DEJIMA-come back (hope so) :-( !

Don't forget Roho (not my fave :-( ) and Kokkai, maybe 2 next Ozeki

Asashoryu- I don't think he will lead the WORLD...don't know why, but I got a feeling that he will give up in 1-3 years, tired of the "rule-prison"...

Sure, they want a japanese star, they will push young talents very hard and someday we will have a new japanese man on top, but an Yokozuna Hakuho sounds ok. More gentle than Asashoryu, and not that agressiv(e?) in his doing.

Japanese-like.

Maru was a "teddy bear",not dangerous beside Takanohana-anybody loved, but Asa is, maybe a culture-shock :-(

If by "NEVER EVER" you mean "January," I agree.

He's only in his third year at university, no? Unless he quits early, that should mean he's still about a year and a half away from joining pro sumo.

Most people would be afraid to post what they think will happen in Sumo a couple of years from now. Most of your reasoning is sound. We shall see what actually happens in two years. :-)

Kokkai as Ozeki seems highly doubtful to me. I just don't see what's supposedly so great about him, and I think his record will look a lot like Kotonowaka's: mostly mediocre bashos as Maegashira and probably a few short stints as Komosubi, maybe even Sekiwake.
