Kishinoyama Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Sato will never be Ozeki, like Kaio will never be a Yokozuna. Body is strong but heart, mind and soul become ill because of pressure. ;-) Your English is fine. I hope you are wrong about Wakanosato. I think he is used to the pressure. He has been near the top of the banzuke for quite a while now. Yes the pressure of trying to make Ozeki is hard to handle but he is so close. I hope he can finish it off in the Hatsu tournament. (Applauding...)
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Wakanosato hasn't become any worse this basho no matter how high stakes have become. Body strong, mind strong, heart strong and soul strong! No pressure diuresis in his sumo!
Otokonoyama Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 [Hmm, I thought "fishes" was meant that way. You know the yusho celebration fish, so "best fishes" sounds like a very nice thing to say to a rikishi... Yes, I understood that in this way. I was just wondering aloud what kind of fish it would be. The winner of a basho would usually tai one on! (Eh?) (Arguing...) Very nice Thank you very much (Applauding...) Everyone likes a good *tai* when omedetai time come 'round (say a yusho), right ;-) 鯛 【たい】 (n) (red) snapper; schnapper; sea bream お芽出度い; 御芽出度い; お目出度い; 御目出度い 【おめでたい】 (n) (uk) happy event; matter for congratulation; auspicious event

AsaMoe Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 maybe i am a bit pessimistic, but i am 50% sure, that there will be no fight tomorow. If Chiyotaikai has any health problem, i think he will not risk further injury

Shomishuu Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Sato will never be Ozeki, like Kaio will never be a Yokozuna. Body is strong but heart, mind and soul become ill because of pressure. :-) They used to say the same thing about Kaio; he was thought to be a perennial sekiwake but he eventually got over the hump. I think Waka can do it too. (In a state of confusion...)
AsaMoe Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 You mean he will not put up a fight? Or he will withdraw? Difficult to say, but I am sure, that Wakonosato will not have trouble collecting a win tomorow.

Ryukaze Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 (edited) Wakanosato has always seemed to be able to find a way to loose to Chiyotaikai for some reason, inspite of his being the perfect type of opponent who typically does well against him, (i.e. a big heavier set "yotsu" favoring rikishi) Either way I think he is about due for a victory especially now that Taikai is hurt but hmmmmmm one never knows...... aderechelsea Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 well ... Taikai got us all there ..... he took the win and i am still buffled with Sato
QttP Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Taikai is totally doomed against every other current sanyaku rikishi if the bout goes static and hugging. Disagree. Hasn't been tested enough. Against Shoryu Taikai always loses in yotsu (at least in honbasho), but this is because Shoryu attacks fast and bout never becomes static. Against Kaio Taikai had lost twice in yotsu in recent years, IIRC, but that's hardly typical - I'm starting to think he can blow Kaio to Mars and somehow lose. No other sanyaku rikishi can force Taikai to yotsu (unless Taikai is in a bad shape, misses thrusts, etc). Against Tenho Taikai cannot win with oshi, so he either tries hiki or gaburi-yori or some quick throw and always wins. Again bout never becomes static.

(Weeping...) Let's ask Asa to stop being so mean shall we?
ilovesumo Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 (edited) Can you tell me, did (I hate grammar) Sato ever had a big injury? (Punk rocker...) We all know what an injury means... (Kotomitsuki knows as well) I think Sato's well, more than other guy's, so, what's his problem??? Something else as pressure? :-) Hope his wife will "kick his AS" (Singing drunk...) QttP Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Yeah, he had, a good while ago. I don't remember exactly when (sometime around 2000) and what it was, but it threw him outside Makuuchi even.
Manekineko Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 It was his knee... when he came back (first time I saw him on Eurosport) he had a huuuuuge bandage on one of his knees.Seems to have recovered well from that, knock wood etc.
Onnagumo Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 He had surgery on that knee, didn't he? In 1999 or 2000? Seems to have worked quite well.
Araiwa Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 He had surgery on that knee, didn't he? In 1999 or 2000? Seems to have worked quite well. Wakanosato is THE example for successful knee surgery. He was dropped to the edge of Juryo but won two Juryo yusho in a row and was back in Makuuchi in no time. There he continued this impressive run with another 11-4 and a first time sanyaku promotion to Komusubi. He even managed to go 9-6 in the next tournament and 10-5 in his first as Sekiwake. So you can clearly see how much better he got after surgery. Sato is the healthiest of all sekitori in my eyes and therefor has great prospects for being an excellent Ozeki. But the wall of promotion seems to be too high for him, til now. Well, I have a good feeling that he will do it finally in Hatsu.
