It will be interesting to see with all the ozeki commitments and celebrations if he can get his “normal” double digit record. Maybe an 8-7 is the best that can be hoped for. (Idunno...)

That's a big bandage on Hoshoryu's left knee. Is there any word on him being injured?

A crack in the meniscus, the knee is swollen, fluid is piling up easily o

- no yusho for Hoshoryu this basho

In an old person, the supple meniscus becomes rigid and brittle (like old plastics) and then it can crack or shatter.  In a fellow of Hoshoryu's age, it's a tear, which could be handled by arthroscopic surgery (maybe as little as one basho missed).  Though cartilage and related structures don't self-heal quickly, sometimes rest actually works.

I watched the first part of the Yokozuna Ozeki bouts and thought Aonishiki actually looked pretty good against Hoshoryu, who just wasn't able to stand his ground (that knee can't help).

Actually, a degenerative tear might not be out of the question despite his young age.

Yes, but not a "crack".
