Intro

Have you been playing Sekitori Sweepstake, but always seem to draw bad rikishi? What if you could just take the rikishi you rightfully deserve? If this sounds fun, then you are cordially invited to participate in the inaugural edition of Steal a Sumotori. While technically a daily game, it is the world's easiest daily game as half the days you have nothing to do and the other half you need only ponder one simple question: "to steal or not to steal?" Read on for the full rules, and if you have any questions or feedback, please let me know!

Rules:

  1. Upon signup, you will be randomly assigned a unique makuuchi rikishi.
  2. During the basho, you win when your rikishi wins and you lose when your rikishi loses.
  3. If your rikishi wins a bout, you have the option to steal the losing rikishi by posting on this thread before 3PM JST the next day. The losing rikishi would then become your rikishi. If the losing rikishi was held by another player, that player would get the winning rikishi.
    1. For example, if your rikishi is Takanosho and he beats Onosato, you could steal, which would make Onosato your rikishi going forward. Whoever previously had Onosato would be stuck with Takanosho.
    2. For your convenience, you may declare before a bout that you want to steal if you win. But keep in mind that if you lost the previous day, your opponent may steal your rikishi after your declaration. If this happens I will automatically cancel your declaration unless you specify otherwise. I will also cancel your declaration if you win by fusensho and you would therefore be stealing a kyujo rikishi, again unless you specify otherwise.
  4. If your rikishi goes kyujo at any time before or during a basho, I will automatically assign you a new non-kyujo rikishi who is not held by any other player.
  5. The player with the most wins at the end of the of the basho wins the yusho. The tiebreaker goes to whichever player won on day 15, then whoever won on day 14, then day 13, and so on. If two players each won and lost on the same days, the next tiebreaker is whoever has the higher ranked rikishi for day 15.
  6. Whichever rikishi you end the basho with is the same one you will start the next basho with.
    1. If your rikishi wins on day 15, you may steal the losing rikishi for the next basho. The deadline for this decision is extended all the way until the next real life banzuke is published.
  7. You may not steal a rikishi from a different division, and if you are ever ranked in a different division than your rikishi, you will be randomly assigned a new one.

if i'm reading the rules correctly, the next day torikumi will come out before the declaration deadline, so if you think the losing rikishi has better odds of winning their next bout than your current rikishi, then you can pick them and have them ready for that bout (or i'm totally wrong and the game master can correct me)

It's sounds very interesting and fun. But why would you want to steal the losing rikishi?

Basically if you think the result was an upset, and the loser is likely to do better than the winner in the future. I imagine most of the time you’ll want to decline the option to steal.

Can I count you in for January?

You can choose whether to steal or not after the bout. By the time the deadline rolls around you should not only know the next day’s matches but the one after that too. But you’re also stealing for an indefinite period of time. You might keep that rikishi for multiple basho!

Because stealing the winning one would be too easy.

It sounds like you want to play! Can I sign you up?
