The forum software has been updated to the latest and greatest in branch 4.7.x.

Due to us skipping a couple of versions a lot has changed under and over the hood. There are still settings to check and tweak, please allow us a bit of time to get things running smoothly.

In the mean time, feel free to leave comments and feedback related to the update in this thread.

I'll get the ball rolling with a request: Apparently long-running threads (e.g. Trivia Bits) automatically get a "top posts/posters" widget added now. I hope that can be disabled because all it does is waste screen real estate, and potentially screws up formatting that used to work, too.

Edit (oh, the edit button has moved): I'm guessing the previous forum version we were on was 4.3.5? Just idle curiosity on my part.

The update looks clean so far. Still the "ERROR for site owner: Invalid site key" is preventing new accounts from signing up.

This is on the to-do list, we still have a CAPTCHA configuration issue.

There doesn't seem to be a per-user setting for it, so I disabled the widget. Edit: And yes, IIRC, some version in the 4.3 branch.

The blacklisted for posting embedded content error still seems to persist, meanwhile. That's an issue at the server hosting level, not Invision's forum engine, right?

Our new ISP seems to have quite draconian default settings. Not that that's a bad thing. I'll look into it.

OK, I'm signing off for the night.  If you never see me again, 1) pop the champagne; 2) there's still a bug in the login process.

Hi everyone,

Thanks to those who worked so hard to update SF.

Where is SF Messaging now?  I can’t find it.  I have 2 active friendships that date back to 2020 that I’d rather not lose.

Also, where are Notifications?  I can’t find that, either.

EDIT TO ADD:  The “Remember Me” login function doesn’t seem to be working.  I have to keep logging in every time I leave SF.  (I’m not on a shared or public device).

If it makes a difference, I am using an iPhone 13.  I no longer have a desktop or laptop.

Thank you.

I am on Android and indeed can't access easily user-related stuff. However, if I select desktop-view mode in my browser, the message envelope and my profile pic correctly appear on top right of the page.

I hate the new look, I use the edit button more than anything else and now it's gone. I get the new post restriction error now all the time, like that with search:

New posts within a short time frame are limited. Please wait 32 seconds before submitting.

Because I click on quote and don't notice it's a quote - quotes look a bit different now.

Sensible error though, prevents multiple posting of the same post

thanks for the update! my only gripe at the moment is the lack of user related things- as mentioned above. maybe I'll keep this tab in desktop mode for now. mobile is convenient though, so if these could somehow be added back I wouldn't complain:-D

Thank you, thank you, thank you. And i'm sure these little things pointed out by others, can be fixed. But for now i'm happy i can like again.

You mentionend "fiancially" in the other post...i'd be happy to donate something for hosting, etc., if possible.

"Hey! Gimme all your gold, or i'll mug ya!"

I'm not sure it would be ethical to accept your offer, but I agree with the sentiment.

We've relaxed the security settings a bit, I hope it fixes the blacklist issue.

There are still a few layout issues that we need to sort out, I'll see if there are new options for mobile users.

Any chance you can add a dark mode toggle? The light version feels even more light than it used to, and this is about the only website I go to that's dark-on-light these days.

Version 4 of the Invision Community suite doesn't officially support dark mode. Version 5 was built with dark mode out of the box and we will have to migrate to it in the somewhat-near-future anyway, so I don't think we'll be spending a lot of time on this.

You'll have to talk to @Kaikitsune Makoto about potential donations as he is the owner of the forum.

I have tested the things that triggered it for me and all works now: editing links works, forum links can be embedded, more than 2 YT links are allowed in a post and the use of the word casino is no longer forbidden.

Fair enough.  And good enough.  Ta.

What I don't like is that the user name proceeds the posted time now in the same line on the top page: I usually click on the time to go to the last post in the thread, it used to be alone in a separate line. Now I keep ending up in the posters profile instead of the thread.

And in the list of latests posts the link is gone, instead the topic top with the poster of the thread linked and the starting time of the thread - quite the opposite of what is useful

We now have a CAPTCHA setup, so member sign up should be working again.

Layout issues have been resolved and we are as close to the default theme as you can get. Hopefully this resolves mobile usability issues as well.

Good to hear. I was hoping to get the forum back online by Christmas, but we seem to be ahead of schedule. Quite the unexpected situation.

Is content embedding supported entirely out of the box or are there plug-ins to make additional options possible? I see Youtube, X/Twitter and Reddit are working (same as before the issues of the last half year), but e.g. Instagram and Facebook aren't. Then again, any Meta-related embedding seems to be notoriously flaky on other platforms as well, so maybe it's not worth bothering with even if it's possible, I dunno.

BTW, I agree with Akinomaki that finding the Edit link hidden inside the Report/Delete dropdown is quite annoying (even if that placement is logical to some degree), but I suppose there's no way around that now.

And yeah, the forum design is now quite blue again, more reminiscent of how it was in the really old days, as opposed to the more light grey-styled version of the last few years (which I took a while to get used to, but really liked in the end). This might be too trivial to bother with, but maybe the resource buttons at the top of the main page could be changed to black again? It might just be me, but they feel kind of eye-catching in a distracting way now.

Edit: Although looking at those two screenshots like that, maybe it's also their sheer size now.

One change that I like is that the search box now has location-appropriate defaults, i.e. "search everywhere" on the main page, "search this forum" in a section, and "search this topic" in a thread.

Hi, How do I select desktop view mode in my browser?  (Sorry, I’m an aging boomer who is not technologically sophisticated).
EDIT TO ADD:  My Messaging & Notifications are now working!!!!  The symbols are in the upper right hand corner.  I haven’t had a chance to check the “Remember Me” login feature.  Thank you so much to whomever fixed this!
