Welcome to the Top 10 Sumo Records Kyushu 2025 thread! I will be attempting to fit in as much as I can from previous threads to keep everyone as much up to date as possible before we get into another new year. We did see quite a few new entries into this year, and the year to a close, let's see what those entries are. Enjoy!

Fastest Makuuchi Yusho from Pro Debut (Excludes Makushita & Sandanme Tsukedashi, since 1958)

1. 10 - Takerufuji (9/2022~3/2024)
2. 15 - Aonishiki (7/2023~11/2025) (NEW ENTRY)

Aonishiki was Bg in 7/2023, so it should be 14 if you count Mz like you did with Takerufuji. But I'd rather think it should be 9 and 13.

I would, but I was going off what his hatsu dohyo would be, which based on the DB says Nagoya 2023. Unless there's something extra that was added. I can always correct it if the NSK puts it out on their banzuke topics page in January

Corrected. Also posted into the Sumo Reference update thread and hopefully the admin can erase that BG entry on Aonishiki's profile

For someone with that many makunouchi bouts, not even making the top 10 in h2hs seems unexpected.

It really helps when you're affixed to a certain part of the banzuke - likewise with a few others. Going up and down makuuchi will lead to a wide variety of opponents.

As Koorifuu said, the H2Hs on the Top 10 are all Ozeki and Yokozuna who stay in the joi all the time. I also think it's harder to accumulate huge H2Hs nowadays because the Banzuke is a bit more volatile, but that is just gut feeling, might be wrong.
To add: Tetsujin Tamawashi has 37 bouts against both Endo and Tochinoshin, 34 against Takarafuji, 27 against Okinoumi. He's just spent too much time in mid-Maegashira, where not only people fluctuate between the Joi or Juryo, but also you might not even end up fighting someone ranked right next to you, which is a de facto guarantee in the Sanyaku.

Fourteen active yusho winners seems like A LOT, especially with 13 of them ranked in Makuuchi for Hatsu (hopefully Takerufuji will make it 14 soon). Is this a record?

It will be, if nobody retires before the banzuke is fixed on Tuesday (Wednesday?)

Fourteen active yusho winners seems like A LOT, especially with 13 of them ranked in Makuuchi for Hatsu (hopefully Takerufuji will make it 14 soon). Is this a record?

13-16 was the infallible range of unique Yusho winners per decade in the modern era - always -, to put into perspective how insane that number is. I also just realised Aonishiki put us up to 18 for the 2020s, putting us 2 ahead of the previous record with 4 years to go.

Interesting angle. I went and looked at unique Makuuchi yusho winners in every ten year period since 1958 (i.e. actual wins, not just banzuke presence of former winners). Here's the list:

TBH I might have a flaw in my quick and pretty dirty method of acquiring these, so take it with a grain of salt.

In the database you can look it up with this simple query. OK, it's a drag changing the years every time, but you can maybe check your results. For instance, it gives me 25 yusho winners for this last period instead of your 26 result.

I posted it for the decades in Trivia Bits a few months ago, and it was quite painstaking to compile it. How on earth did I not think of that query.... I just wrote all yusho winners down lmao

Something's not right with Tamawashi here.  83 looks to be the correct number of basho, being wrong in the active rikishi list, but also it's not bolded in the top 10 list.  Plus, Tamawashi is on the top 10 list twice.

Something amiss with Tamawashi's numbers here. Having the same number of MK as sekitori and in makunouchi already stood out, then there's different number at the end.

Tamawashi has indeed never gone MK in juryo so the former checks out.

The latter, however, I'd probably have to count those manually.

Fixed the active numbers for Tamawashi. @Koorifuu is correct in that Tamawashi has never had a make-koshi in Juryo

Fixed the active numbers for Tamawashi. @Koorifuu is correct in that Tamawashi has never had a make-koshi in Juryo

And Aminishiki the same, until his final collapse in 2017-2019, where his last six basho were Juryo make-koshi.  Maybe a lesson about hanging on too long for Tamawashi, someday?
