Generally the articles name him as possible ozeki for Haru, but a yusho or doten now will definitely make him ozeki for Hatsu.

Sponichi titled today: lion's tiger's den for ozeki promotion presented

Ajigawa-beya had a new keiko ground built at their location in Kurume, for a total of 20 million yen, contributed by local supporters. After Aonishiki preparing for ozeki promotion, it will be used to promote sumo in the region.

Oh, it was the little tiny o next to the picture.

Edit: The translated article doesn't say anything about him potentially being promoted for January. This is the full text that I see.

Quote

On the 30th, the Ajigawa stable, home to new sekiwake Yasuseinishiki (21), who has won 11 matches in four consecutive tournaments since his debut at the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament, unveiled a new training facility near their lodgings in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The facility, which includes a sumo ring and storage space, is a single-story building of 90 square meters, with a total construction cost of 20 million yen. It was completed with donations from local supporters.

This marks the fastest debut (excluding tsukedashi) since the introduction of the six-tournament system in 1958, when the new sekiwake achieved his status, surpassing Konishiki's 14 tournaments. To support this promising wrestler, who will also be attracting attention at the Kyushu Tournament (starting November 9th at the Fukuoka International Center), Arakida clay used at Tokyo's Kokugikan was delivered from Saitama Prefecture. The ring was completed by a yobidashi (a caller). A

3-meter-high, 6-meter-wide shutter was also installed next to the ring, allowing viewers to view the indoor ring from outside the building.

"We hope it will inspire the children who come to watch," said Hiroki Maki, chief priest of Suitengu Shrine, the main shrine of the nation, whose grounds are located. "We also plan to hold a Wanpaku Sumo qualifying tournament in May of next year." The facility will not only serve as a "Tiger's Den" for Yasuseinishiki's quest for promotion to ozeki, but also to promote sumo in the wider region.

No need to say the obvious in Japanese. Mentioning only one possibility excludes others, else the inherent ambiguity of the language implies the potential. And mentioned now it points to now.

As I said, older articles were cautious and mention Haru.

OK, trying to learn: are you saying that because the "quest for promotion to ozeki" was mentioned without any time frame, that indicates he can do it right away?

Also, you mentioned a yusho or doten will get him there. Is that also implied somehow, or is it just knowledge that if promotion is possible, that's usually what does the trick?

That a yusho will get him there is simply common knowledge, and I wrote it before I mentioned the article, because it is not written anywhere. As I said, no need to say the obvious. Several promotions happened without an official ozeki run with such an outstanding result - Chiyotaikai, Dejima, Shodai, Mitakeumi

And this time Hakkaku has already named him a proper candidate last basho. A proper ozeki run needs 2 times double digits as sanyaku before the promotion deciding basho. I guess about half of those promoted had one basho that didn't fulfill this.

And yes, mentioning an ozeki run now without adding "ozeki earliest for Haru" means, now is possible, but of course only with a much better result than so far.

I'd say 12-3D or 13-2J will do.

Mission accomplished

NHK reported that the NSK will have a special rijikai to decide the promotion - the (unstoppable) process has started - never decided against so far

Asked about this basically decided ozeki promotion in the NHK interview: "I'm happy, but since there is a rank above on the banzuke, I want to aim for that" - voices of amazement of the hall

he now has to think about the 口上 - acceptance phrase for the messengers on Wednesday - the shisho told him to do it himself

The acceptance phase, like he said in the yusho interview: Aiming for higher

大関の名に恥じぬよう、またさらに上を目指して精進いたします

To not put shame on the name of ozeki, I concentrate on aiming for even higher

Befitting that ex-Kaio was one of the messengers. Tight and on the point message from the young Ukranian.

So, Aonishiki, I hope that Kaio told you a thing or two about how to stay in the rank for at least ten years as he did while causing some small uproar on some international sumo forum about something they called ozeki back-scratching club.

Who are the other rikishis on the last picture with the schoolchildren? Can someone help.

I hope that he has a somewhat higher rank at some point in 2026.
