He's been training for years at isegehama and is clearly very strong and is going up against the most green wrestlers in sumo. If he went all out, he would risk injuring the young rookies. That much is pretty obvious. The same would be true of any wrestler that had great potential. Edit: unless you're talking about the "that's difficult" part (because it's not). Oh, it makes complete sense, I'm just shocked it got said publicly. I don't remember such comments about e.g. ex-Terunofuji when he was fighting Jonidan opponents at the start of his comeback.

Akinomaki Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 (edited) Shinjo shusse hirou o o o o o o o o Asahifuji (from the Tokyo Asahifuji koenkai), Tenshoyama (with a kesho mawashi of shisho Tochizazuma, showing a big mountain), Seki (one of Hiradoumi's personal koenkai), Takeda (of course with a Saiki koenkai kesho mawashi of Yoshikaze) o Edited November 16 by Akinomaki 2
Akinomaki Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Videos from a well connected spectator (the channel is also a Futagoyama fan channel) shinjo shusse hirou the new recruits go around the venue to present themselves to the NSK departments (don't know who from the outside has access to that area) 2
Akinomaki Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 (edited) video reports from the same channel follow the new recruits in and out and show maezumo in the beginning Day 3 day 4 day 5 Edited November 16 by Akinomaki 1
rokudenashi Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Is it fair to say that this is the first time a rikishi has appeared in the shinjo shusse wearing a keshō mawashi bearing his shikona? I'm trying to cast my mind back to past sons of ex-sekitori, but all examples that came to mind went by some other shikona on debut. 2

Asashosakari Posted November 17 Posted November 17 Some post-shusse clean-up: The two maezumo Mongolians had their shusshin added properly. (Bukhchuluun should follow next time.) Tenshoyama: モンゴル・バトシレット Batshireet (?) Asahifuji: モンゴル・ウランバートル Ulaanbaatar 1

News for Kyushu, but he has started the 6+ months kenshu period in Hidenoyama-beya in mid August - so Haru or Natsu for his shindeshi kensa debut, maybe together with Estonian descent Nicolas. 18 year old Anatoli Zadoroznõi (180cm, 124kg), wrestling and judo background and he started with sumo at age 12, was at the junior world championships (several videos of him on YT for greco-roman wrestling) It just occurred to me that we didn't mention a development that I personally found very strange. Back in mid-October, the heya Instagram account reported that Anatoli was going back to Estonia to get his visa sorted and would only be back in Japan in the new year. Now, we've not been privy to all the kenshu goings-on of the various foreign rikishi in the past, but among the ones we did get information on, I don't recall a single case of somebody having to interrupt their trainee period for as many as three months. Shouldn't the relevant visa have got sorted out before he came over in August? It's not like he had moved in immediately upon coming to Japan; his original heya-seeking took place in a separate visit back in early June. Anyway, I can't imagine the Kyokai will just count these three months anyway, so I would say that has pushed his shindeshi kensa eligibility to no earlier than July. Assuming no further complications, that is.
Heather82Cs Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Am I dumb, or they can't be found on JSA's website? (At least in English.not listed in stable either AFAICS.)

As trainees they are not NSK members yet, only acknowledged as having started the kenshu period. They would only appear as heya members on a heya site. 1

I presume you're talking about the maezumo guys. The official site does not show anyone who isn't currently ranked on the banzuke, so the members of the most recent maezumo class are not linked anywhere until the next banzuke comes around, nor are any previously-active rikishi who have fallen off the banzuke but not retired (regardless of whether they have already returned to maezumo or not). 1
Reonito Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Sumodb has Banzuke-gai and Shin-Deshi sections at the bottom, not sure how this relates to the official site.

Maybe they tried to convert it on the spot and it didn't work out.
