First strike for the evil Kyokai on day 2 already. They really have no reason or rhyme with their even-day policy. And why does Kirishima get precedence over WTK on day 2 again? Aren't they supposed to alternate like the Komusubi?

Only without kyujo.

...and only with their obviously abandoned even-day logic.

Just now, Reonito said:

I don't get two Y vs. K bouts on day 1 and no intra-sanyaku bouts on day 2, never seen anything like that

I wonder if doing it this way was somehow easier for them when they learned about Daieisho's kyujo.

They have abandoned the even-day logic. They did that a few basho back. The intra-sanyaku thing on Day 1 was the thing that surprised me, but I like it. Two higher profile matches on the opening day, instead of having one on Day 2.

It makes the game overly random, I'm afraid.

I wasn't thinking of the game, but more so, the fact they are thinking flexibly. A new Yokozuna, first tournament in the new arena - it makes good sense to give spectators two YvK matches on the first day.

That still doesn't explain the inconsistent ordering of Sekiwake and Komusubi on day 2, unless S2 is considered strictly inferior to S1.

with daieisho out and only one ozeki, this could be an interesting basho for this thread.

I guess the next two days should give some insight into that.

I have a suspicion about what's going on with the ordering in the sanyaku.  OTOH, i went and missed the deadline for day 1 like an idiot again.

Oh, they re-ordered the Sekiwake on the day 2 torikumi - the world's at peace again.

Edit: perhaps they fired the one responsible and we can expect a more conventional torikumi from now on.
