Akinomaki Posted November 23 Author Posted November 23 When I hinted earlier this year that Onosato is more susceptible to injury, I rather meant he is less able to fight injured than Hoshoryu. I think it is absolutely vital for him to be careful and rest at once, with his big frame it is much easier to aggravate the injury. Terunofuji is injury expert, he saw it at once yesterday.

He tried moving at keiko this morning, but after talking with him, we decided not to push it and to have him rest. We’re very sorry that he has to sit out on the final day.” NHK reported that Onosato injured the shoulder at the tachiai in the Aonishiki bout, but went on and won.
Akinomaki Posted November 23 Author Posted November 23 19 kensho extra for Aonishiki in the new last bout, 15 of 45 for the yokozuna bout were cancelled https://www.sanspo.com/article/20251123-AVSCB4AECFPORD6K7JJY6CZ6CU/#:~:text=相撲
Godango Posted November 23 Posted November 23 (edited) Well, that's pretty awesome. We're surely getting a new, very deserving Ozeki. Exciting times. His reaction and that of his tsukebito in the hanamichi was delightful. Edited November 23 by Godango Various typos
BigKahunaMan Posted November 23 Posted November 23 I saw a few remarks in the leadup to the match about Aonishiki having to fight twice, but conversely Hoshoryu was coming into that playoff cold, having had a lot of time to think (or overthink) about it. But you still have to go out and win, and Aonishiki did it. Well deserved first yusho and hopefully only the first of many.
Oshirokita Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Wow, what a move by Aonishiki to slip around Hoshoryu and get a rear grip for the win. I am going to watch that match ten more times!
Benihana Posted November 23 Posted November 23 (edited) Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable what this boy has achieved in such a short time. Quickest to Sekiwake (12 basho, previous record 13 by Konishiki). Quickest to Ozeki (13/18 Kotooshu). And he's still only 21. He now beat Hoshoryu 4 out of 4 times. If it goes on like that...Yokozuna in 2027, if not 2026. Edited November 23 by Benihana
Akinomaki Posted November 23 Author Posted November 23 (edited) Aonishiki ozeki within 2025 - that (Haru 2024) prediction fulfilled, so I go on with the next not so bold one looking now: yokozuna within 2026 On 29/07/2025 at 00:11, Akinomaki said: On 28/07/2025 at 23:12, Bunbukuchagama said: All of this serves to remind you of the magnitude of what you are expecting from him. Kaninoyama Posted November 23 Posted November 23 We may have a new Hakuho on our hands. In terms of sheer skill.

Tigerboy1966 Posted November 23 Posted November 23 I hope Aonishiki treasures the Sanshō he picked up this time, because I don't think he will be getting any more of them. 1

Just think about the missed kinboshi, if he had strechtched it out a bit At least he has 1, opposed to Hoshoryu and Onosato with 0. Winning again!
Akinomaki Posted November 23 Author Posted November 23 NHK reported that the NSK will have a special rijikai to decide the promotion - the (unstoppable) process has started - never decided against so far Asked about this basically decided ozeki promotion in the NHK interview: "I'm happy, but since there is a rank above on the banzuke, I want to aim for that" - voices of amazement of the hall

Tigerboy1966 Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Most maku'uchi wins in 2025, the final reckoning: 71: Onosato 56: Aonishiki 55: Hoshoryu, Kirishima 51: Takayasu, Wakatakakage 49: Oho, Tamawashi, Hakuoho 47: Daieisho, Tokihayate, Onokatsu 1 2
Leoben Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Aonishiki is outrageous. Ozeki will surely be a stepping stone. How many 21 year old rikishi have been better than him in recent memory?
Akinomaki Posted November 23 Author Posted November 23 5 basho in a row sansho since entering makuuchi for Aonishiki is the most, joint with Onosato, with his first shukunsho also all 3 types now https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2025112300363&g=spo#:~:text=相撲 Onosato had one more each of shukun- and kantosho 6 hours ago, WAKATAKE said: Sansho have been decided Shukun-Sho: Aonishiki conditional if he wins the yusho Kanto-Sho: Kirishima if he wins today, Ichiyamamoto if he wins today Gino-Sho: Aonishiki outright, Yoshinofuji outright all conditional sansho awarded
