It's nice to see Kotozakura turn things around to having a winning record already, but his last four matches are probably against the top 4 rikishi right now other than himself, 3 of which are the yusho leaders and the other only one behind, so it's not particularly settled whether he's going to escape Kadoban.

I'm really impressed by the quickness of Fujinokawa, but he really needs a bit more strength.  He's going to lose a lot of matches the same way (as against Nishikifuji in particular, but other losses as well) unless he can finish the bout in that first push.  I think he should be willing to give up a little bit of that speed in order to be able to actually have the strength to get people out of the ring in those first few seconds.

It's difficult to be strong when you are tiny.

Several early kachikoshi today as Chiyoshoma, Roga, Ichiyamamoto and Kirishima all ensure a positive end to the year. I'm quite surprised by Chiyoshoma but then again time to time he has a good basho. Nishikifuji got his kachikoshi already yesterday though he lost to Ichiyamamoto today. But maybe it's better for him to stay around his current rank and take the banzuke climb slow.

Hiradoumi vs Hakuoho should've been a torinaoshi even if Hiradoumi's body was in a more disadvantageous position. Their hands touched at the same time and so would've been fair to redo.

The ladies in the front row got definitely their tickets' worth of entertainment as Ura did human bowling and rolled right into them :-D That was fun to watch even from the screen, I can't imagine how it would've been close by.

Kotozakura managed to do what Onosato couldn't, successfully executing a last ditch pulldown while remaining on the tawara. It looked awfully close live but from the replay the result was pretty clear. Yoshinofuji is quite unlucky, whereas Kotozakura did a good gatekeeping job for the two yokozuna.

Very nice spirited fight between Hoshoryu and Takayasu, but Takayasu is getting a bit old and tends to lose his contests with the yokozuna these days despite his positive overall record.

At the end of the day the balance is more or less restored I suppose. Aonishiki has his work cut out for him facing the two yokozuna in the coming days, although sharing the lead is more than he could've expected a few days ago. Tokihayate might be fed to a few higher rankers if he picks up a few more wins. It's shaping up to be a nice and exciting last few days.

Reminded me of the Hogwarts motto: Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus (Never tickle a sleeping dragon).

What was Takayasu thinking?

don't look now, but moriurara is one win away from a KK

Considering the subject, it should probably be phrased as "moriurara is one win away from a MK."  After following him for over 16(!!) years, I kind of depend on the disappointment.

I loved the Hoshoryu - Takayasu bout. You could see them both getting angrier and angrier as it went on.

Kekaeshi ? Seriously ? Watching one is a first for me.

Come on, you joined 2016, there have been 11 kekaeshi since then in Makuuchi alone. The last 6 (incl. today) were all by Tobizaru, the last one was in 2025.03! In fact, Tobizaru had 9 of the last 10 Makuuchi kekaeshi. Akua was the c-c-combobreaker vs. Kaisei in the latters second to last Makuuchi bout.

I'm delighted to see Hoshoryu FINALLY has managed to channel his inner Uncle on a more regular basis. Bit of a heel on the dohyo suits him well, as long es he stays the amiable guy he seems to be off the dohyo.

He's the closest to WWE-style wrestlers we have [thankfully not THAT close].  Beetle-browed and pouty on the dohyo, but bespectacled and grinning off the dohyo.  Also, his rage face doesn't have the contempt that Hakuho had; Hoshoryu really looks pissed off, which is a much better look!

Yeah, Hakuho was a bit "ewww, brother ewww, how dare you to fight back", while Hosh is more like "F*** YOU, I KILL YOU", but not just because Takayasu fought back. Hoshoryu checked his mouth for blood after the match. I wouldn't like that either and react the same way.

Houshouryuu was verbally warned today for the dame-oshi.  He got heated up. He was slapping Takayasu in the face during a shoving match He slapped him in the face and slammed him back. After pushing him out, he delivered a dame-oshi, sending him flying out of the dohyo. As Houshouryuu was leaving, head shinpan Kumegawa  verbally warned him, "The audience may get hurt, and Yokozunae have to act as if it goes without saying that they'll win." Houshouryuu reportedly apologized, saying, "I'm sorry. I got a little heated." In the dressing room after coming out of the bath, he blurted out, "I got a little heated." Was it because a slap landed on his face? "I guess so. If you get hit, you want to hit back, right?" he revealed. Prior to the match, he had a 4-10 record against Takayasu (including fusen). His perceived weakness against Takayasu and the fact that he was aiming for his first Yokozuna yusho in his fifth tournament since promotion may have contributed to his aggressiveness.

Aonishiki and Oonosato, who were tied with him with two losses, won as well. "I'm not thinking about that. I just want to focus on doing my own sumo and doing my best each day." There are three days left. A dame-oshi isn't something to be praised, but Houshouryuu's instinct to win with his heart was kick started..

A little spark at the top is a nice counter to Onosato's placidness.

I think Ura is now officially engaged to that spectator. Or at least she knows him that well now.

When they go out on their first date , Ura will roll/somersault  while she walks.

That depends on the approach. I'd say Aonishiki has the tougher challenge. Both Onosato and Hoshoryu are more than capable of beating him and should have plenty of motivation to do so. It would be a small miracle if Aonishiki ends up with the yusho.

All involved in the last two matches over the next three days have motivation. Kotozakura wants to avoid kadoban, Aonishiki wants promotion, Hoshoryu wants his first yokozuna yusho, and Onosato probably wants to reassert his dominance after the slip.

So many matches have not gone the way I expected this time, so I've got no idea who's gonna get what they want.

If 'zakura wants to take a day off and recharge for the kachikoshi, I'd say today is just about the perfect day to do so. Just saying.

Tamawashi has the chance to become the only wrestler ranked sekiwake or below to be on the top 10 wins list for makuuchi should he defeat Wakatakakage, and would tie Takanohana II

Oonosato´s strength, combined with his calm demeanor...just otherwordly. The only thing that worries me is if he would start neglecting technique (his footwork) because of his power, like Terunofuji supposed did. Hopefully he does not get seriously injured by overly relying on his physique.

I'm surprised the shinpan didn't even bother to stand up after the final bout. Onosato clearly touched down first, and a dead-body rule is usually confirmed by a mono-ii.
