Kintamayama 47,464 Posted July 19 1 hour ago, dingo said: . Kotozakura seems to have grown into the basho and has been showing *proper* ozeki sumo these few days. I think that can only be positive from the yusho competition perspective. Not a single win against an opponent with a winning record except Abi whom he dominates, both losses to "real" competitors who are both 5-2. I demand to see how he does against the Sekiwake and guys who are doing well this basho. not to mention Oonosato. I'd settle for a 9-6 now.

Well, before losing to Kotozakura today Hakuoho was 3-3 but I get your point. I agree that Kotozakura will find it very difficult against Kirishima and Onosato. Against the other front runners I'd give him a 50-50 chance.

Katooshu 3,485 Posted July 20 Such classic Oho, 1-5 (discounting default win) and the 1 win is over the co-leader yokozuna.
Jakusotsu 6,430 Posted July 20 They should create a new kimarite for Wakatakakage's win over Kinbozan: utcharigake* (*by courtesy of @Ganzohnesushi)
RabidJohn 2,086 Posted July 20 Some fantastic sumo today, topped by Wakatakakage's beautiful utchari. Onosato, though... that was Kakuryu-level bad. Easy hatsu kinboshi for Hakuoho.
dingo 1,493 Posted July 20 Onosato panicked way too early and inexplicably went for the pull too soon after the tachiai. As RabidJohn said, exactly like Kakuryu used to sometimes. What I don't understand is why he decided to pull instead of trying to push through Hakuoho's resistance. Maybe that seemed easier, but now he got an expensive lesson not to resort to pulling too easily. I'm sure Nishonoseki will give him an earful as well. Kotozakura seemed to run out of stamina at the end. He should've finished the bout earlier but lacked the final push.

Seriously, he doesn´t look like the same since Hatsu.
Tigerboy1966 1,671 Posted July 20 Onosato does start off high at the tachiai. Kinbozan nearly got him at the start yesterday but then hit reverse (looking for a slap down?) Today Hakuho just got underneath him and Onosato is nowhere near as good going backwards. Coaches will be taking notes.

He got away with too many unneeded pulls on his yok-run because he's on another level of... That's why Hakuoho's recruiter unbeaten streak was so utterly impressive back in the day. @Tigerboy1966 will receive a severe reprimand for naming an unperson.
Kintamayama 47,464 Posted July 20 (edited) Tomorrow Oonosato will face Takayasu, his regular tachimoti. so he needs a replacement. That will be Ichiyamamoto. "I wonder if my arm will hold up.. I'm worried if I can do the sonkyo. It's my first time, so it will be a valuable experience. I'm grateful and I want to do my best.." he said. Psst Itchy, here's a tip- send Abi. No one will notice.
