I can't think of any principled way of making a banzuke that would give that result. Chiyoshoma was ranked higher, had much the tougher schedule, and deserved to be half a rank higher by the numbers.

The results are in for the Natsu basho 2025 GTB competition. 316 players, some 60 new players, one of them, blindraven01, even got the jun-yusho. The winner in his 7th basho is Duden! Well, done Dude(n)! And so another wild race has come to its conclusion. Thanks to everyone for playing. Thanks to Andoreasu for running it and to Doitsuyama for overseeing the technical branch.

I'm lucky to get away with an 8-7 after putting Takayasu at M1. I think I thought Wakamotoharu would be a bit hard done by if he only moved up half a rank.

Fortunately it only affected three positions.

So 63 players and 253 sock puppets. I have four sock puppets and none of them have ever kachi-koshi'd let alone get a top ten. Sometimes all four of them submit the same banzuke  ;-}

There's something like a dozen cases of this exact rank-record scenario in the db, and every single time it went the other way, including a couple of times in the last couple of years. The more general scenario would require some manual work, but I certainly can't remember a case of a joi rikishi getting jumped by someone from a lower rank who's behind them by the numbers when this isn't required by basic banzuke-making rules.
