Kintamayama Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 (edited) On the 27th, the Kanda Police Station of the Metropolitan Police Department arrested former Tokitsukaze Oyakata (Masahiro Sakamoto (51), ex- Tokitsuumi), on suspicion of using a forged official document bearing a seal - using a fake disabled parking permit. Ex-Tokitsukaze is accused of displaying a fake sticker on the dashboard of his car when parking on a street in Ryogoku 4-chome, Sumida Ward, at around 9:45 a.m. on February 5th. He has admitted to the charges. It is believed that he made a color copy of a sticker issued to an acquaintance living in Tokyo and repeatedly parked illegally. Multiple fake stickers have been confirmed, and the circumstances of how he obtained them are being investigated. An investigation was conducted after a report was received in July last year in Chiyoda Ward that a car with a sticker was frequently parked on the street. The former Oyakata left the Kyokai after he was caught violating COVID rules twice in 2021. He is the father of Juryo Kiryuukou. Edited February 27, 2025 by Kintamayama 1 2
Seiyashi Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 On the one hand, this isn't the worst offence to be caught for, on the other, clearly he ain't never been one for rules, eh...

And it is by far not the worst thing a former Tokitsukaze has been arrested for. There are not many kabu you can say this about. Is his former shisho still in prison? Maybe they can share a cell? I could be wrong on that though.
Koorifuu Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 Tinfoil hat on. As idiotic and vile as this is, y'know, it is relatively minor. I wouldn't be surprised this is one of those cases where law enforcement are out for someone in particular (whether it's on their own behalf or not) and nail them for whatever they can.

Katooshu Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 Funnily enough Tokitsukaze did work at a printing shop before joining ozumo.... 1 1
yohcun Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 What a bizarre crime. All that risky bother for a parking space.

However I can tell you in my country it is more prevalent than one might think. Usual culprits are lawyers, college professors, politicians or celebrities.
Akinomaki Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 The first case "ended" (might be revived) without a trial, with punishment suspended, now the next case, it's really a widely used method. They investigate now, if there is a connection. http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/topic/45117-terutsuyoshi-arrested/

Reported as not to be indicted on Oct. 24th https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2025102400975&g=soc, but today a first court hearing for ex-Tokitsukaze at the Tokyo district court. He admitted to the charges of using a forged certificate for parking, the prosecution demands 18 months imprisonment with hard labour, the defence a suspended sentence. The court decision is on Jan., 14th. o We'll see if Terutsuyoshi gets the same. 1
dingo Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 Wow, 18 months with hard labour would be a very tough sentence in relation to the crime. I expect it will end up a suspended sentence though, like most les serious cases.
