Naganoyama Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Does anyone have any news about Azuma's knee? On day 1, he stared at his knee a bit anxiously and sucked his breath a little when kneeling at the end. On day 2 he was distinctly limping when he got up. I haven't yet seen the day 3 action. He's a gutsy rikishi but is he going to be able to go 15 days? I am hoping this is just a bit of anxiety on his part and will wear off. (Eh?)
Kishinoyama Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 The Commentators noticed it as well. I was worried he had damaged his knee. I guess it is a non-issue? Sure looked bad to me. (Eh?)
Fukurou Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 On day 1, he stared at his knee a bit anxiously and sucked his breath a little when kneeling at the end. On day 2 he was distinctly limping when he got up. I haven't yet seen the day 3 action. I'm trying to remember what exactly his knee injury was... I've sprained the medial collateral ligament in both knees several times (tae kwon do). My experience in recovering was that even when the doctor, my Master, my Sensei, and I all thought everything was good to go, they were still susceptible to easy re-injury when I really start stressing them. (I did say I'd sprained the same ligament *several* times...) I'm hoping for the best for him, but I'll be surprised if he makes it all the way through the tournament.
AsaMoe Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I'm hoping for the best for him, but I'll be surprised if he makes it all the way through the tournament. Or at least until he makes his kk on day 8. (Sad goodbyes...)
kotooshu_bulgaria Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Tochiazumi picked up his first loss this tournament but I couldn't see the bout. Did his injury get worse and that was the reason he lost the bout or sth else? Is he still genki?
Jakusotsu Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Tochiazumi picked up his first loss this tournament but I couldn't see the bout. Did his injury get worse and that was the reason he lost the bout or sth else? Is he still genki? The bout stalled quite some time with both Tochiazuma and Kyokutenho being locked in the center of the dohyo. As usual, Azuma was the first to move and had Tenho ready for being shoved out, but in a brilliant move the Mongol twisted Azuma around to reverse positions and walked him out. The knee didn't seem to be an obvious problem here.

Asashosakari Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 The bout stalled quite some time with both Tochiazuma and Kyokutenho being locked in the center of the dohyo. As usual, Azuma was the first to move and had Tenho ready for being shoved out, but in a brilliant move the Mongol twisted Azuma around to reverse positions and walked him out. Or to paraphrase what Mikiro just said in the chat: "Tenho made the perfect move against a guy with only one leg." Strategically brilliant, definitely, but helped by the fact that Azuma just couldn't build much pressure against being turned around like that.
Zeokage Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 I thought it might have been the height difference. Azuma was lifted straight up as soon as he made his final push.
