dingo Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Now Hiradoumi is one name I couldn't conceive of as ozeki...

dingo Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Yeah I agree that all the short term ozeki recently have made the rank look a bit like a revolving door and one could say seemingly devalued it somewhat. It's still hard to reach but these days it seems even more difficult to stay. I guess the greater parity between rikishi (or relative lack of outstanding rikishi if you want to put it that way) has made it difficult for someone to climb to the top unless they overachieve. Or if you're superstitious, there's a curse on ozeki recently 1

As a child I just thought it was neat to watch my shadow spread forward. Leave it to the intelligentsia to make a child's delight into a veiled insult. :( 2

I thought the same about Takakeisho, and I know I wasn't the only one. Unfortunately for Hiradoumi, I've developed a bit of a liking for him, which means that even if he does ever get the requisite numbers for a promotion, his tenure will be shockingly short.

Akinomaki Posted July 30, 2024 Author Posted July 30, 2024 Terunofuji thanks to the new parade car could celebrate it with the head of his koenkai, LDP politician Hagiuda, involved in a slush money scandal end of last year Apparently the social media were full of annoyed comments about this appearance http://jisin.jp/domestic/2355295/ 1
