Sales start this Saturday - fitting poster, showing the (Neyagawa) locals - here shown by a local graduateGE_UIf2bYAADtVx?format=jpg&name=large

I haven't found a close real photo of that - all have Gonoyama already vanquished by Ura - and of course in reality both are heavily bandaged

As usual now, no tickets for the day, only if tickets are left, they are sold at the venue on the day, but we already have a complete sell-out https://sumo.pia.jp/vacant/va03.jsp

Nothing at the official resale, nothing at the chaya site - Kotonowaka does it

Fifth basho in a row that at least one rikishi who has been demoted from juryo to makushita will be kyujo; Tochimusashi isn't on the Day 1/2 schedules. Takakento and Kiho who suffered that fate in the previous two tournaments continue to be kyujo as well, now down at Ms43 and Sd23 respectively.

Kiho to jonidan

Should still be in sandanme next time, it's "only" 60 ranks down for his 0-0-7 this time.

While we're still on the topic of Miyagino-beya rikishi, I was also unable to spot Hokaho and Raiho on the first two schedules.

It wouldn't surprise me if Hokaho felt too weary to go through this chaos and moved on with his life, even though he's still better than most, but Raiho's absence could be explained by this.

It didn't make it to this thread, but Miyagino's mini-Enho Raiho suffered a serious looking left knee injury on his Day 12 bout against Kaigo and got rolled out of the dohyo amidst muffled screams of pain. Fusenpai on Day 14.

I imagine that, under different circumstances, we'd have heard something about his physical condition.

The dohyo-matsuri today still without rikishi had about 350 visitors - no live streams any more.

Very few pics - not much interest in this with another subject now dominating the headlines.

Tamagaki there was the main interest in the event

The basho interest of course focuses on Kotonowaka - will he be the first since Hakuho Natsu 2006 to get a yusho as new ozeki?

Return after 4 basho for ex-juryo Tochimaru - he had endoscopic surgery on both knees on August 29th, his old injuries, in October he could walk again, but end of the year he still couldn't train, at the beginning of the year he became able to do shiko stamping again.

In jonidan also back after 3 full basho kyujo are Hayatefuji and Hatooka (day 2) - ex makushita-joi - it will be an interesting yusho hunt in jonidan this time, with the newcomers Anhibiki and Kyokukaiyu (Dalai-kun), also Anryukai after graduation is now full time on the job.

Kotonowaka will win the yusho. Assuming he gets the most wins. You heard it hear first.

John Madden-esque. "I think the team that scores the most points will probably win this game!"

Miyagino-beya rikishi will  likely be in the focus this basho, esp. the last sekitori Hakuoho.

The first of them on the dohyo today was jk3e Nishikiori, losing to ex-makushita Chiyooga, who is back after 4 full basho kyujo, the injured knee still taped

Terunofuji should not only have trained with the kinboshi guys from last basho

The last five matches today were either depressing, anticlimactic or both.

Best performance in makuuchi came from Kinbozan, with a lovely win over Gonoyama.

I remember Terunofuji losing a straight-up yotsu battle with Wakamotoharu early last basho and thinking the yokozuna had no chance. I'm not making the same assumption after he lost a straight-up yotsu battle with Nishikigi today...

Not a great day for Mongolian ozeki, though.

All Mongolian sanyaku down on day 1 - when did that happen last time..

I mean 3 or more rikishi, all 1-2 down probably not that rare (Sigh...)
