dingo Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 I was captivated by the two videos guest starring actor Higashide Masahiro who came to visit the heya, did a bit of keiko and then cooked a meal from wild boar that he'd hunted himself! It was really interesting to see how an outside visitor interacts with the rikishi, and what's his reaction to sumo life.
Octofuji Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 As has been mentioned on other threads, Maikeru has just retired. This video of him from the channel a few months back is well worth watching if you haven't see it.
Geralous Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Such a brilliant channel. Captivated me. Only discovered it a few weeks ago and I’ve binged watched them all from the beginning and now am all upto date. There’s another channel that shows every bout the rikishi have from this stable. It’s really got me into sumo in a different way. I watched every day of the last basho from beginning to end. im hooked !!!! 2

umbriel2 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 One example: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-L2jrlRAToQ&pp=ygUQRnV0YWdveWFtYSBib3V0cw%3D%3D 2
MrGrumpyGills Posted March 6 Posted March 6 They have two new recruits: https://youtu.be/ryYAx_jQCjc?feature=shared 1
MrGrumpyGills Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Yet another new recruit: https://youtu.be/fE7HHeD1M90?feature=shared
dingo Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I guess they need fresh lower rankers since some of their older rikishi are slowly making it to the higher ranks.
Kintamayama Posted September 7 Posted September 7 (edited) Watching this diligently together with the Tatsunami channel. From Futagoyama - Newbie Takahara. Jonokuchi 23E. Sanyaku for sure. Maybe higher. Doesn't lose to the non-sekitori in keiko, Haven't seen him against the yes-sekitori. Built like a brick. Shoulder injury, and this is him doing subdued sumo on demand, asked to not go all out.. https://youtu.be/uECRdy5d1is?t=200 Edited September 7 by Kintamayama 3
hypnoowl Posted September 7 Posted September 7 @KintamayamaSince the heya channel came up, I've long been wondering if there was any drama around Kikuchi that I missed? Or what is the reason he's never interviewed anymore?

He's definitely better than the other lowest rankers but...

I am not saying he won't become a sekitori because he has time to develop, but to say you see a yokozuna in him is crazy. There are a number of teenagers who I rate quite above him. For example: tanji (the half white wrestler), tenrosei (asashoryus other nephew), ikarigata (fujinokawas brother), anhibiki (aonishikis stablemate), and fukuzaki. All are teenagers and all are quite a few steps above him and no one would say they could see a yokozuna in any of them at least for now. Edit:actually tenrosei has a few people predicting he will become yokozuna... For a reason that we all know, I suppose. Also the fact he's pretty good lol Edited September 8 by shantan123 1

Ditto Anhibiki. Fukuzaki maybe. Tenrousei? I don't believe so. Takahara has just arrived and already all his new mates are saying this guy is going places. They know, they are rikishi, they can tell when the real deal arrives. You can tell by the way the Oyakata addresses him that he's the new golden boy of the heya. But again, this isn't some philosophical riddle. We shall see. And if you say that "He's clearly the better youngster in the stable" seven minutes after he arrived, well, you see something there as well..

I mean it helps that the youngsters in the stable are all very low level. Kikuchi and Koga especially. If you're not many steps ahead of those 2, even as a newbie, you aren't going to go very far.

My comment wasn't meant to impress disbelief; quite the opposite—I was impressed with the practice footage, and more so when I found out his age. 1

Asashosakari Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Upper-tier high school graduates coming in with at least low makushita skills is hardly an uncommon sight these days. The makushita division itself still tends to be a harsh mistress to them.
