thatsumoguy Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 www.sumostakes.com is my new sumo game, powered by the one and only sumo-api, that I am releasing for open beta testing this 2023 November basho. Sumo Stakes is a daily sumo game where you stake your points against any matches in the top division. If you pick the winner, you double the points you staked. Try to get to the top of the leaderboard for the yusho, or just break even to get your kachikoshi. It is just for fun, so there are no prizes of any kind for winning, just the pride/pleasure/sense of self-satisfaction of having done so. You can sign up until 2pm JST on 12th November with a google single sign on (I can add other options, like Reddit, etc. if people want it) and register for this basho. Once the day's matches are released by the JSA you can make your stakes for that day. They can be changed at any time up to 1 hour before the top division matches begin at 3pm JST. Once you register, make sure you click on "Join the Basho", i'd also recommend adding a filter to your email to make sure @sumostakes.com doesn't go to spam. Since this is the first live test run there may be bugs or some problems, so please get in touch here, or via the contact link on the homepage. There are many other features I'd like to develop for the game, such as email reminders to stake, scaling returns based on the rikishis tournament performance and performance against their opponent, one off stakes such as number of kinboshi etc. Put your predictive skills and sumo knowledge to the test and join me in playing sumostakes
thatsumoguy Posted November 10, 2023 Author Posted November 10, 2023 (edited) With the release of the torikumi for day 1 (and a few bug fixes from me) staking for day 1 is now available for the next 42 hours! So make your stakes! To access the staking page; 1. Sign in 2. Join the basho if you haven't yet 3. Click on "Make your Stakes" A tip from me - if you lose all your points on day 1, you are out, so I'd keep some points in reserve just in case your favourites all have a bad day. Happy Staking! Athenayama Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 (edited) @thatsumoguy Well, if we could sign up with a simple email address (not using any google account) I might give your game a chance. Edited November 10, 2023 by Athenayama 1

From a security standpoint, you should definitely trust google or other single sign on services way more than something I could implement myself. I can add other options, Reddit for example if you prefer.

I'm just trying to "spread" as little as possible personal data on the web (check my profile here.... it's empty!) so I try to avoid creating new accounts here and there (google, Reddit or any other). I'll pass for this basho. Maybe in the future? Good luck to all the players! 1

Tomorrow FBI, CIA & others will know more about me than my siblings ever knew. Sorry, I'm out. Ganzohnesushi 1

Ganzohnesushi I tried to put it in as much as possible polite way but your post expressed in a blatant way part of my thought. 1
Bunbukuchagama Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 Yes, guys: FBI, CIA, KGB, CCP and all the other scary acronyms are really interested in skeletons in your closets.
Reonito Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 Last I checked, ThrowawayEmailForSumoGames@Gmail was still available 1

That's exactly when I read such reactions (waaaaay too big a topic for this forum), even if it was just a joke, that I''m really worried (and a little disillusioned actually) about the younger and next generations... 1
Jakusotsu Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 By now my level of attrition has reached a stage where I don't care anymore who cares about me not caring anymore.

As I said I'm more worried about how younger and probably future generations think, accepting "very strange things" as "perfectly normal". Now about how you feel, I hope we'll have again the opportunity to discuss it "live".

I appreciate your concern for younger generations, but I might be even a bit older than you; it's not a generational thing. Edited November 12, 2023 by Bunbukuchagama
Tetsuba Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 @thatsumoguy I can't join the tournament, even if it's not 2pm JST.

Gernobono Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 (edited) day 2 button not availabe and the workaround " then you can manually enter /202311/2/stakes for the url" leads to "Unexpected Application Error" works now Edited November 12, 2023 by Gernobono 1
Tetsuba Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 (edited) @thatsumoguyI have 0 points to stake on day 2 even if I have actually 210 points after day 1. EDIT : it worked again after a refresh Edited November 13, 2023 by Tetsuba 1

thatsumoguy Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 A question for anyone who is playing, is getting back double pts + your original stake too strong?Should the point return be, stakedPoints * multiplier (currently double) rather than (stakedPoints * multiplier) + stakedPoints My feeling is that it is, but I will probably leave it alone for this basho, but change it for the next.
thatsumoguy Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 Day 2 is done and dusted, and day 3 is ready for staking!
Jakusotsu Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 I hope you have allocated enough space for the 478,296,900 points Gernobono will have in the end. 1 2
