I am the Yokozuna Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Someone had several drinks during the meeting, it seems. 4
RabidJohn Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Is it churlish of me to be disappointed we've only got pics of these three? I like seeing the pics of them all together. Am I imagining that it often includes those who've left the NSK? 1
Akinomaki Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Last year also only these guys were on the pics of the yokozuna-kai - and one was missing then On 19/12/2022 at 18:06, Akinomaki said: After 3 years a yokozuna-kai was held again, usually it's before the Kyushu basho. First time as shisho for Miyagino and Nishonoseki, who was the coordinator of the event. 7 took part, the only active Terunofuji, Hakkaku, Isegahama, Shibatayama and Musashigawa - Kakuryu (the only non-shisho among the oyakata) was absent o o Half of the 8 now in the NSK are foreign born I don't think those who left were guests in recent years, but I remember such cases as well 1
code_number3 Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 What are the things that usually be discussed on yokozuna-kai?

Kintamayama Posted November 19, 2025 Author Posted November 19, 2025 This social gathering for former Yokozuna included current Yokozuna Oonosato and Houshouryuu who participated for the first time. In addition to these two, a total of nine attendees were present, including Hakkaku (former Hokutoumi), (former Oonokuni), Miyagino (former Asahifuji), Musashigawa (former Musashimaru), Otowayama (former Kakuryuu), Nishonoseki (former Kisenosato), and Isegahama (former Terunofuji). At the beginning, Oonosato and Houshouryuu welcomed the participants , followed by a toast from Hakkaku. Nishonoseki, who served as the organizer for the third time, said, "The organizer chooses the restaurant. In the past, we've had events at the Grand Hyatt and the Okura, but since I became the organizer, we've been going to (Hakata restaurant) Wakae." Payment is by membership fee. The event was so lively that it lasted until four AM this year. "I was the organizer for about 10 years. I used to do it at the restaurant Oimatsu. We give out congratulatory money to our members for 50th, 60th, and retirement. I think the membership fee back then was 30,000 yen each," Shibatayama explained. He became a Yokozuna in 1987. "When I first joined, to say I was nervous is an understatement.. Kagamisato was sitting across from me. I couldn't even speak. I just went around pouring drinks with my 200kg body. Then he poured me a big glass of sake and I gulped it down." Otowayama recalled, "I was nervous at first. I'd arrive early and wait. On the second or third visit, my Oyakata had a chanko party planned, so I took photos with the guests there and then arrived late (to the Yokozuna Association). So I ended up rushing in for three drinks..." This year, a certain Oyakata had a bit too much to drink."He was just trying to liven things up.." said one participant. 1

So 5 Japanese and 4 Evil Foreigners, they're still majority but only because they kicked the soccer player, they canned the bottle juggler and they hacked the real Miyagino. Well, I suppose from the other side we have Mr. Hanada and Mr. Kitao missing too. 49 minutes ago, Jakusotsu said: Only one? Pathetic... That's what happens when they dismiss the ones that liven up the party... 3 1
