what's the big deal with the Kotonowaka v Hoshoryu call? Hoshoryu won the yusho off a wrong call, it's only fair.

Could be worse. He could be like poor Suguro, fellow sdTD who has never even had a match in makushita due to constant injuries.

Looks like Takayasu hurt his back, limping out like with a hernia. (I got mine from a similar drop on the hip)

Day 10, and Mitakeumi is still with us. Great bout against Gonoyama, who may be a newbie but really not that much. Considering that since his second Ozeki basho up until Nagoya he kept fading in week 2 (actually already with Day 6), it seems that Mitakeumi got at least part of his old strength back. Sure, he's out of yusho contention unless he keeps winning out and the yusho line falls down to 11-4, but it's good to see him showing some vitality at the end.

Things are coming out weirder and weirder. Atamifuji on sole lead, and Takayasu possibly injured. Unless Papa Bear manages to escape the male nurses sent by his local retirement home and bounces back somehow, Teru's mini-me has a de facto 2 wins lead over the rest of the pack. Considering how underwhelming the san'yaku has been in this tournament, perhaps Atamin has already enough of a gap to bring the yusho home. Or perhaps not. There are still 5 days of tournament, and he will have to face the joy starting tomorrow. His first opponent from the joy will be Tobizaru, who represents a good first test although I would have liked him to be paired with Hokutofuji (7-3) instead. Well, they will meet each other in the next days for sure. My problem is instead that there are only 5 days left, and using a slot for Tobizaru is somehow of a waste. As the arasoi is now, Atamifuji should also face Onosho (7-3), then go up against the Sekiwake bunch (6-4 club), Kirishima (6-4) and of course Takakeisho (7-3). That's six people in total, seven with Hokutofuji. He cannot possibly face them all. On the other hand, I admit that I have more confidence in Tobizaru and Nishikigi to bring Atamifuji down, rather than the murky-ish upper san'yaku of this Aki. I wonder if the plan his for Atamifuji to get through the san'yaku first, and finally giving him his closest Maegashira joy rival (Hokutofuji, Onosho, or whoever else) on senshuraku. That could work, in a way or another.

Anyway, now the game is pretty much "wait for Atamifuji to drop 2-3 bouts and pass over him", which at this point concerns the 7-3 bunch led by Takakeisho. I am not sure whether the Hamster himself is in a good enough shape to catch up, but he's in a good company. Hokutofuji is certainly good enough to pull it off, while I'm not sure whether the like of Onosho, Endo, and Tsurugisho can enter into serious contention despite their present record. As a backup plan, the 6-4 guys still have an outside hope for a 11-4 playoff, but Atamifuji must start losing hard first.
