Kintamayama Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 (edited) KaioU stayed at Tomozuna today and had 18 bouts with Sandanme Kaisieizan. Kaidou and other Tomozuna lower rankers went for degeiko to Miyagino beya, but KaioU did not join them. "It's not like fighting Sekitori, so I can take it easy", he explained, while not going at it too roughly, though sweating... He has been very busy these last few days with TV appearances and press conferences and supporters- he has to consider his fatigue, so he "skipped" degeiko. Other Sekitori have started serious training. "I probably should up my pace and start training with Sekitori", he added. With all the increased PR around him, he better start getting ready pretty soon. Edited November 9, 2004 by Kintamayama
Jonosuke Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 For the first time since arriving in Fukuoka, Ozeki Kaiou went out on a rather aggressive de-geiko session to Kokone Beya camp where he had twenty training bouts with Hakuho, Chiyotaikai and Asashoryu (six against Asashoryu). "Just business as usual. I guess I just went in with the flow. I didn't especially overexert myself or anything," Kaiou said. As this was his first serious training sessions against sekitoris, he appeared to take it easy little bit but he did not look like he was sufering from a lower back pain even when he had some intensive sessions. He says he is willing to go out on de-geiko while watching carefully on his physical condition. "Because of one injury or another I haven't been able to do all this before but it's not as if I hated doing hard training," Kaiou added.
aderechelsea Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 there are two posibilities : 1. Kaio is trying to relax and go into the basho with less anxiety. The TV appearences and all are a way of doing this ... 2. Kaio is just not in the mood to train hard and accomplice what everyone is expecting and will probably will go on and lose another "big chance".... i will go with the second cause all this doesn't sound too good for a yokozuna candidate ....
Tenkashoryu Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Ozeki Kaiou went out on a rather aggressive de-geiko session to Kokone Beya camp where he had twenty training bouts with Hakuho, Chiyotaikai and Asashoryu (six against Asashoryu). Please let me know what were the results (Applauding...)
Zentoryu Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 there are two posibilities :1. Kaio is trying to relax and go into the basho with less anxiety. The TV appearences and all are a way of doing this ... I don't think TV appearances and press conferences and dealing with his supporters clubs are going to be relaxing for him. If anything, these functions would likely increase any anxiety he might have right now. Very few professional athletes like having that kind of focused attention from the media. It's like shining a very public spotlight on an already pressure filled situation. It will be interesting to see how Kaio handles this pressure over the next couple of weeks.
Chienoshima Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Ozeki Kaiou went out on a rather aggressive de-geiko session to Kokone Beya camp where he had twenty training bouts with Hakuho, Chiyotaikai and Asashoryu (six against Asashoryu). Please let me know what were the results (Applauding...) According to Nikkan, Kaio was finally 10 - 10 at the end of this keiko sessions, but had a pretty bad time against Asashoryu, through a poor 1-5 !! It seems that kokonoe oyakata was obsessed by this keiko session, which lasted only one hour while there one yokozuna and 2 yokozuna, plus great hope Hakuho, Ama. Regards, Chienoshima
Kintamayama Posted November 6, 2004 Author Posted November 6, 2004 (edited) He was yorikiried by Hakuhou and Asasekiryuu as well. Against Asashouryuu, most bouts went to mutual hidari-yotsu, but Asa had more horsepower and stamina, and won 5 out of 6, including one right uwatenage. This one, there is no doubt about.. Kintamayama Posted November 6, 2004 Author Posted November 6, 2004 "Ow! Yer givin' me a purrple nurrple!" Purrple Nurrple
Kintamayama Posted November 6, 2004 Author Posted November 6, 2004 To get back on topic, KaioU says his back is OK after yesterday's serious keiko, although he felt tired after the strong workout. Nikkan had his bouts at 9-11, Others say 10-10. Kokonoe Oyakata: "Well, as soon as he became tired, he was easing up, which is a bad habit". He wasn't talking about Sakari either. "It's been a while since I had this kind of top-level keiko.," explained KaioU.
sekihiryu Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Sounds like hes already starting to choke and its only keiko! or he may be nursing his back, trying to save it for the Basho only. Doesnt instill me with much confidence though (Applauding...)
Kintamayama Posted November 6, 2004 Author Posted November 6, 2004 (edited) KaioU went to Kokonoe again today. Seeing Asa wasn't there, he took Chiyotaikai with him to Tokitsukaze for degeiko. He went 3-1 against Taikai, 5-0 against Shimotori, and was 21-2 over all. " I'm not 100% ready yet. I'm just glad I can keep training. I'm feeling good", he said. Edited November 6, 2004 by Kintamayama
Otokonoyama Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 It's a pretty safe bet - wherever 'Shoryu is, 'Taikai ain't. Kaio better start avoiding 'Taikai, or he'll miss out on any more yokozuna keiko. (Applauding...)
Kintamayama Posted November 7, 2004 Author Posted November 7, 2004 Today, the 7th, he went for degeiko to Tokitsukaze beya again. Yoris, nages- 19-1. "The Ozeki is strong. It looks like he'll win the yusho again!", said Shimotori, who was soundly beaten by him 0-7. "All kinds of stuff going on in Kyushu and that's a bother, but the preparations are good and I'm reaching my peak. I'd love to do more keiko, but I have to take into consideration my fragile back", said KaioU.
Guest anaqern Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 hopefully he could maintain his form and wins the yusho. i would like to see another yokozuna and limit asa dominance in the dohyo. if he cannot make the promotion this basho, then i think he will not make a yokozuna at all. tochiazuma seems to be a better bet in the long run if he can nurse himself back to form. any news on wakanosato and kotomitski?? the future ozekis has not been very good during the last few bashos esp koto. waka has been a steady sanyaku performer but lacks the mentality for an ozeki jump. anyone see these two make the promotion next year. (Shaking head...)
Kintamayama Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 (edited) November 9th-degeiko at Tokitsukaze again. Shimotori, Tosanoumi-all together 12 bouts only, no results given. Tokitsukaze Oyakata was heard yelling at him to not use too much strength in his upper body. "I did a bit less today because I have small pains here and there, and decided to be careful. Tomorrow, I'll be doing some light preparations at the heya", he said. Edited November 9, 2004 by Kintamayama
Jonosuke Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 any news on wakanosato and kotomitski?? I don't know of Kotomitsuki training but I saw him on NHK news yesterday at Fukuoka Dome watching Major Leaguer Baseball All Stars playing Japanese All Stars. I think I saw him shaking hands with Hank Blalock. MLB blew away the Japanese guys 7-2.
KIKENNA Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 He was yorikiried by Hakuhou and Asasekiryuu as well. (Applauding...) (Applauding...) (Applauding...) !GO ASA, GO! Glad to hear that Hakuho is in pretty good form also. Althou, I'd rather hear about Asashoryu taking Tochiazuma 5-1. Can't stand the guy. (Oops! ) sorry 'zuma fans.
