All knee related too, both meniscuses (menisci?) in Takakeishō’s case

Fujiseiun has injured his right ACL and probably requires surgery, so it will be a zenkyū for him I guess

Confirmed, the medical certificate for Fujiseiun says exactly this: right ACL injury, from now on hospitalization and surgery is planned http://www.47news.jp/news/9558111.html

Kirishima out with a back injury, no further details available yet.

Edit: Clarified by the medical certificate as a right rib contusion, three weeks rest. (Nikkan)

According to Michinoku-oyakata an inflammation near the right shoulder blade has been a recurring issue for about a year. Kirishima had been sitting out practice for the last three days, but it failed to get better in time.

Over at Sports Hochi the shisho is quoted to the effect that he'll only allow Kirishima to join the basho if his condition improves to the point that he can actually do proper sumo, but is keeping it open as a possibility. (I'm skeptical...)

While I'm at it - this has been certified for three weeks as well.

Kirishima and Takakeisho out.  That ups the statistical chance for the three wannabe Ozeki, but it doesn't take away the perception that the rank has been snake-bitten in the last few years.

Seriously, feels like there's some kind of ozeki curse going around the last few years and it keeps getting worse. Talk about monkey's paw. Soon noone will even want to become ozeki.

Takayasu jinxed it before he got demoted. If he can't win a yūshō at ōzeki, neither can anyone else. Only Terunofuji gives no shits for jinxes. The jinx took one look at him and decided not to run the risk of getting morozashi-ed to hell.

On being told that the jinx exists, all three ōzeki wannabes fall flat at the tachiai for the next 14 days.

Does this count as the Ridiculous Predictions thread yet?

So even if Takayasu wins a yusho now (is that a jinx?) then the curse won't be lifted?

I'm a little confused then why he was on the day 1 torikumi.  They thought it would get better by the time the basho started, and didn't want to be forced to sit out the first two days?  I suppose coupled with the unlikelihood of returning to the basho, it just ended up being much worse than they thought.

He wanted to screw up people’s sumo games. There’s no other logical explanation. Maybe he is a secret player.

3 weeks rest is a lot shorter than the usual 2 month rest time they punch in. Maybe just a week short of being able to compete.

Kirishima may be back on day 4, according to Michinoku-oyakata: "He's healing quickly". They'll decide after keiko tomorrow, if his condition is good enough he'll be in day 4, else has to aim for kachikoshi on the remaining 11 days from day 5 on. https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2023/07/10/kiji/20230710s00005000243000c.html

Sponichi apparently has no doubt he'll enter till day 5
