Yubinhaad Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Futagoyama-oyakata (former Ozeki Miyabiyama) spent ten days in hospital following the Haru basho due to septicaemia, he revealed today. He began to feel unwell two days after the basho ended, but after the banzuke meeting began on March 29th he returned to his hotel in Nishinomiya, Hyogo and called an ambulance as his condition worsened. At a hospital in the city, the doctor treating him said that if he had waited another hour, he might not have survived. He had previously taken medication to lower his blood pressure, but now it was so low that he was given medication to raise it for the first time. He also lost 23 kilograms during his stay. The cause seems to have been a kidney stone that had lodged in the urinary tract. Despite being in hospital, he was able to watch via camera his deshi doing keiko and sent advice, now he is back in Tokyo and plans to be present in person from tomorrow. https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202304080001275.html 2 8 1
sumojoann Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 What a shock! And he's only 45 years old. I'm glad to hear he's going to be okay.
Tsuchinoninjin Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 (edited) Wow! I once had to go to the hospital from my hotel in Nagoya for a kidney stone lodged in my urinary tract. The fact that he ate the pain until he ended up with sepsis is INSANE, it took me everything just to keep pushing away the tunnel to unconsciousness just from the pain alone. If the oyakata making the banzuke are under that much duress its honestly amazing the final banzuke makes any logical sense at all. Edited April 9, 2023 by Tsuchinoninjin 1 4

Seiyashi Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Never have the words "Dammit, I'm not going to let him X even if it kills me" been truer.
since_94 Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Whoa! Close call. Wishing him a speedy and total recovery.
