Athenayama Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 A post by @Jakusotsu just gave me the idea of this thread. I don't know if it has been created already here but I made a quick search and didn't find any. This is the place where all of you could share your preferred TV shows or film musical themes with or without comments ! It's too late for me to post some now, I'll do it at some point later this week end.
Jakusotsu Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Oops - sorry - wrong clip in the board - what I was really listening to was this. 1

Jakusotsu Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Trust me, you don't really want to know....cheers!
Jakusotsu Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 But to stay on on the topic I accidentally created, here's one all-time favourite which everybody recognizes by the first piano chord.
Athenayama Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 A first part with TV shows, will probably be followed by others (more will come to my mind for sure), including also movies. Some scores are also linked to the atmosphere of the episode they're part of so they might not "talk to you" as they do to me. Personal tastes of course. Oldies : The Persuaders : hereCentennial : hereMannix : hereShogun : hereMagnum : hereColumbo (just one theme I like) : here Sci Fi : Battestar Galactica (2004 version), to me the best Sci Fi show ever. So many good themes in the soundtrack. I chose this one inspired by "All Along The Watchtower".here 1here 2Defiance : here
Yamanashi Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 (edited) I will think some more on this, but the following is a must: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zHTcxVjX0I . (Theme from Harry's Game) [They also sang one of the best themes from a movie, I Will Find You from Last of the Mohicans] Edited December 3, 2022 by Yamanashi more stuff 2
Jakusotsu Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Undoubtedly their best song which isn't on their best album. (...oops - we're straying from topic...) 1
Akinomaki Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 I'm mainly into classical music, and film music for me is the continuation of that, while contemporary classic is no music. I think I'll post regularly in this thread, e.g. my favorite Bond themes and songs 1. John Barry - On Her Majesty's Secret Service - I guess the version as the film theme song is not allowed here as offensive, so just audio 2. Switching The Body - The John Barry Orchestra (from Thunderball) 3. If There Was A Man - The Pretenders (from The Living Daylights) 4. The Living Daylights - A-Ha 5. Live And Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings 1
Benihana Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Some O.S.T.s i like to listen. Star Wars (Williams AND the newer stuff), Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix, Ghost in the Shell, Interstellar, Pulp Fiction, Heat.
Sakura Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 One of the things I enjoyed about Peter Jackson's take on Lord of The Rings was the soundtrack by Howard Shore. 2
Sakura Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 (edited) Not a TV show, but Sid Meier's Civilization series usually has great Music. Civ 4's theme is above (the original theme is in this playlist). I never realised that Christopher Tin actually composed Baba Yetu for Civ 4 and it won a Grammy. EDIT: Though the Lyrics, I think, are The Lord's Prayer. I don't have Civ V but I have Civ 6 and the main theme is once again composed by Christopher Tin, but with Lyrics by Leonardo da Vinci. sumojoann Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 My all-time favorite science fiction movie is Blade Runner, the original one from 1982, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford. The music was composed and performed by Vangelis. I especially like the music in the end titles. 3

That's one of my favorites, too. If the music is great, I can watch a film over and over again (if it's short enough, not the trilogy), otherwise once is enough. One soundtrack that is especially great in this respect for me is that of ROBOCOP And several by great composers: - Henry Mancini - Arabesque - my favorite parts: Arabesque - Shower of Paradise - The Zoo Chase - John Barry - The Black Hole - favorite part: Zero Gravity Even one great piece in a film makes me love it: - Nino Rota - Romeo and Juliet: What Is A Youth - By Glen Weston - Ryuichi Sakamoto - Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence And a great film with a great opening is the ultimate experience Fed Zinnemann's A Man for All Seasons, score by Georges Delerue: opening

Another Clannad tv theme (which got me to go down the Clannad and Enya rabbit hole way back when) is 'Robin, the Hooded Man' from the fantasy series Robin of Sherwood. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BgV6eqKDNKA 2
sumojoann Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Another one of my faves where you only have to listen to the first 2 notes to instantly identify which movie it's from. I still remember the day many years ago when the movie first opened in the theaters. It was playing in the auditorium next door to our auditorium where we were watching a different movie. Suddenly, we heard blood-curdling screams coming from the audience next door!!!! Had NEVER heard anything like that, before or since.
Oshirokita Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 As for movie music, one of my favourites is from the 1975 version of Rollerball (do NOT watch the remake!) which includes lots of Classical and other music. The theme of lost love shook me emotionally when I saw this on late, late night tv when I was young, played to Albinoni's Adagio. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dA-f9EntrdU 2

Not a word was spoken by anyone. The music said it all...

Although the opening theme is iconic, the closing credits theme is even better with its mournful saxophone overlying the motif. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=48wa4eePvVM 1
Oshirokita Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 I won't post them here but two movie soundtracks that I purchased to listen to again and again are: Basil Pouledoris - Conan the Barbarian (epic) Alan Silvestri - Predator 2 (underrated)
Jakusotsu Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 ...and in the same vibe as many of the above: https://youtu.be/CnQm2_cAZvo
Athenayama Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 I will never have enough likes so I just wanted to write that every single post here above deserves one ! 1
Akinomaki Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Joe Hisaishi's music for the Ghibli anime blockbusters is also among my favorites, especially the soundtracks of these 2, for which the films are also among those I like best Nausicaä Mononoke-hime About anime I had posted already in another thread, one from Ghibli included On 29/01/2021 at 08:30, Akinomaki said: Some of my favorite Anime songs from favorite Anime Opening 1 from Dragonball, Makafushigi Adventure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJqGirLjQn4 Ending 1 of DBZ, Zenkai Power https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-UCyrqaA3g Ending of Heisei Tensai Bakabon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYnYXMTp0IA&t=92s Ending of Majo no takkyuubin (Kiki's delivery service), Yumin: Yasashisa ni tsutsumarete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8N2qhzfc5E From Anpanman one always gets the Anpanman march, but I like the other, the Yuuki Rinrin song, of which the original proper short version is hard to find: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ei_eBrs6WSk&t=2m18s And from a minor favorite, I recently found that it is excellent to give you some genki energy, Isao Sasaki: Uchuu Senkan Yamato - speedy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruMKYiLlQxw, powerful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zR2Jfo9m7g0, now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIV9bMIF_70 Adding to that the song of the same name from Tonari no Tottoro (Mika Arisaka) 2
