Yamanashi Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Miyanofuji went 0-7 last January at Sd55. His 5-2 this basho left him (after 41 basho) with an even 137-137-6 record; maybe he thought it was time to get out while he was not un-ahead. Sawada leaves at age 20 after never breaking mid-Jonidan in four years.

JSA must be a little happy about gaining a single rank back. 1

Same entry basho as Daiamami and Asagyokusei. With just a bit over 100kg, he used a variety of techniques, including an izori. 4 1
Koorifuu Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 (edited) Tennozan's another mildly surprising one. An ozumo career spanning over a decade, with a rapid rise to mid sandanme preceding 9 years mostly spent yo-yo'ing between lower makushita and upper sandanme. Ironically, having toiled on those echelons for so long, his career high ms16 was reached only a year ago. 2021 was, in fact, by far his best year. He spent it toiling around on makushita's upper half, and briefly flirting with the makushita yusho on Haru (4-0 start) and Nagoya (3-0). Sitting out Natsu this year shunted him from ms46 to sd25, and results got worse from there. Now he's decided to call it quits on a decent note - he's just scored a 4-3 KK from sd47. Yubinhaad Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 Genkaiho retires at his home basho after 18 years on the dohyo, during which he reached a high rank of Makushita 25. His shikona comes from the Genkai Sea, which forms the northern coastline of his home prefecture Fukuoka. Spoiler Stablemates taking turns to make a cut. Denzan was the tray-holder apart from when he made his own cut - he and Genkaiho joined the heya together in March 2004. Otake-oyakata (former Juryo Dairyu) makes the final cut. Floral tributes. After a tidy-up haircut and a change of clothes, Genkaiho returns to make a farewell speech. Sawada's intai was announced between basho, Michinoku-beya posted a couple of shots from his danpatsu-shiki then. Spoiler Tennozan was captain of the sumo club at Yanagi Gakuen High School. After graduating he followed in the footsteps of Amatsu, his senpai at the school, to Onomatsu-beya. During his 11 years on the dohyo he won a Sandanme yusho and reached a highest rank of Makushita 16. I believe his shikona was taken from the mountain of the same name which sits on the border between Kyoto and his native Osaka. He intends to return to Osaka and study to become a police officer in future. Saionji will study for a national qualification as a judo therapist. 2 3

Among the participants was his good friend and former stablemate Amatsu. Tennozan emerges after a change of outfit and a proper haircut. Speeches from invited guests. A commemorative group shot brought things to an end. While he wasn't on the post-Kyushu list, Musashigawa-beya reported that Mihonoumi has retired after just over seven years in ozumo. He's been struggling with a chronic neck problem after an injury a while back, and hasn't been able to do keiko to the level he wants. The heya posted a couple of pictures from his danpatsu-shiki. Spoiler A commemorative picture outside the heya. And the shisho (former Yokozuna Musashimaru) makes the final cut. 1 7
