Golden boot final standings :

Kimyama didn't score in his last bout and gave the opportunity to others to dispute his first rank.
Our World Champion Kotononami was that one. With 2 goals in the finals he could reach Kimyama and "steal" the first place thanks to a better goal difference!
Pitinosato completes the top 3  throwing the unfortunate finalist Chijanofuji out of the podium also thanks to a better goal difference..

Golden glove final standings :

Finngall conceded a goal but it didn't cost him anything apart from depriving him another clean sheet. 2 goals conceded in 7 games is a great performance. The golden glove is well deserved!
2 goals away Kotononami ends second with the same defense as Kurosaki but with a better goal difference.

    Progression Player GA Diff,
  1 (=) Finngall 2 (+5)
  2 (+1) Kotononami 4 (+9)

BWBF  Match #2

Lordshamrockyama 1. Argentina (1st) (S2) 2. France (R) (2nd) (S2), W 1 3. France (ET), D 0 4. Morocco (2nd), D 5. Argentina (2nd), L  X  6. Morocco (1st), L 0  7. Morocco (ET), D 0 8. Argentina (ET), D 0  9. France (1st)                                                                                                                                                                                     Comment: Thanks!

Finngall:  1. Argentina (1st) (S2), 2. France (2nd) (S1), W 0 3. Croatia (2nd), D 0 4. Croatia (1st), W 1 5. Argentina (ET), D 6. Croatia (ET), D 0  7. France (ET), D 0 8. Argentina (2nd), L  X 9. France (1st)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Comment: Taking some risks here, but I feel like I need to favor Argentina more that I would wotherwise given that my opponent has France as their (R) team. Good Luck!

Interesting match here:

1.) Lordshamrockyama scores 1 goal at line #2 with his (R) team. No chains broken. 1-0 for Lordshamrockyama.

2.) Finngall scores 1 goal at line #4. No chains broken. Score 1-1.

3.) Lordshmrockyama's chain broken at line #5. Score 1-1.

4.) Finngall's chain broken at line #8. Score 1-1.

So, the score is 1-1 and this is the only Bench World Final match going to Penalty kicks!

We go to Penalty kicks:

1st penalty, Lordshamrockyama has France and misses! Finngall has also France and misses! 0-0
2nd penalty, Lordshamrockyama has Croatia and misses! Finngall has Argentina and misses! 0-0

So, we are going to Sudden death:

3rd penalty, Lordshamrockyama has Morocco and misses! Finngall has Croatia and scores 1 goal!  0-1

Winner of Bench World Bowl is Finngall with 1-0 (pen) (hope I am right)

Congratulation to Finngall!!!

There is going to a be a VAR on the penalty shoot-out. Achiyama has given me permission to view the monitors.

Revising the rules to make them clearer has been on my 'to do' list for a few years now. Unfortunately, I always plan to do them after a tournament, and then they get put on the back-burner as other more urgent things crop up - and then get forgotten about until the next tournament begins, by which stage they have been 100% forgotten.

Not only is Christmas about to happen - along with a new basho (and Bench Sumo), but I am (forever) in the process of moving house. It was meant to be tomorrow, but it now looks like it will be postponed until the first week of January, just in time to coincide with Kaba's (5 year old Felix's) scheduled operation to remove his tonsils.... Oh well. So, I'll schedule send an email to myself for early February reminding me to have a look at writing clearer versions of the rules - in particular for the knock-out stages....

Anyway, the principal behind the 'penalty shootouts' for all of the knockout rounds, is to reward the player who most correctly predicts the teams progressing from a remove of at least a round.

For the final penalty takers, the overall winning team (Argentina) is rewarded with '3 penalty kicks', the team placing second (France), '2 penalty kicks', third (Croatia) '1 penalty' kick, and fourth (Morocco) is a complete miss. I appreciate that as such, this reads confusingly. Thankfully, only one of the final five matches went to penalties, so only one needs another look.

The next post will do the penalty shoot-out, and (I hope) that the real-life example will make the rules clearer.
