Eikokurai Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Congratulations to Shodai for achieving kadoban status again. I love this guy's consistency. 5
Eikokurai Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Kiribayama sends our last Ozeki yusho hope crashing onto his arse.
Tigerboy1966 Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 So at the end of day 9 the best record in sanyaku is 6-3. Can any of our Database Yokozuna find out how rare this is?

Nobody thinks Hokutofuji will go on like that, IIRC the discussion here. That was dangerously close, Takakeisho is the last sanyaku hope Gone - I didn't expect the sanyaku to be that bad again - or rather underestimated Hokutofuji
Eikokurai Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 (edited) Shodai is only the third Ozeki to have 1 win by day 9 and the previous two don't count as they were in 1909 and 1915 when the basho was only 10 days. Also, they included kyujo. Shodai is therefore the first ever Ozeki to makekoshi on day 9. http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query_bout.aspx?show_form=0&day=9&rank1=O&wins1=1 Edited September 19, 2022 by Eikokurai 2 1 1

Akinomaki Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 (edited) Oh-no-zeki - and Terunofuji has been given up also by the fans in the hall - the Morinaga-sho that they chose used to be fix on Terunofuji on the past, this basho it also was on ozeki some days, but today it was on Hokutofuji, though Terunofuji-Takayasu usually should have the full fan attention Edited September 19, 2022 by Akinomaki
Eikokurai Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Well, that was fun, but also pretty dire sumo. Looked like a veteran's bout at jungyo.
Eikokurai Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 (edited) All the Ozeki and the Yokozuna losing is no longer a noteworthy event. Edited September 19, 2022 by Eikokurai

Taliesin Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 So, what will Terunofuji do now. Pulling out is very justified, but he has shown multiple times in the past that if there's any choice he usually elects to persevere.

Akinomaki Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 The only thing consistent this basho is a shukun interview every day - which means, there was no day where all y/o won 1
Taliesin Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 I know he "has to", but I won't be surprised if he doesn't (at least for now).

He has no kinboshi to give out anymore (except if they pair him with Hokutofuji) and he stayed till the end before, so I guess he'll go on
Rocks Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Why would Terunofuji pull out? He isn't look worse than the rest of sanyaku and there's a ton of envelopes up for grab in each of his matches. 1
Jakusotsu Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Terunofuji notwithstanding, will Shodai give Takarafuji a sorely needed win or will he pull out first?

If he's injured, he'll prolong his career better by resting. Besides, he needs to win get those envelopes and he's not looking very spritely.
