It has to be Terunofuji. If someone was locked in tight against Hakuho with his favoured grip, and beat him, then Terunofuji is the answer.

In the event that all three leaders win today, I could see two scenarios happening for day 15. The run that would make the most sense would be

Terunofuji vs Mitakeumi
Takanosho vs Sadanoumi

However in order to guarantee that Terunofuji could finish 12-3, could they match him against Sadanoumi for the final day, since he and Takanosho have already faced each other?

Daieisho beats Sadanoumi to knock him off the yusho pace. Both are 10-4. However, since Takanosho (11-3) has already faced Terunofuji, those two can’t meet and therefore both Daieisho and Sadanoumi can still make an 11-4 playoff.

Mitakeumi (6-8) gets his makekoshi losing to Takakeisho (7-7), a day after Shodai got his makekoshi losing to Mitakeumi. Takakeisho gets one last chance to avoid kadoban tomorrow. I for one would find a July with three kadoban Ozeki pretty intriguing viewing!

Terunofuji barely breaks a sweat beating Shodai to stay with Takanosho on 11-3. Shodai drops to 5-9, which is actually 3-11.

Well, looks like Terunofuji beats a hapless Mitakeumi easily tomorrow. Only question is does Takanosho beat Sadanuomi to force a playoff. I don't know. Takanosho has seemed very nervous the last couple of matches. I doubt he saw himself  being in this position after 4-11 last basho.

After seeing the day 15 schedule, I hereby dub Ichiyamamoto, Ichirus: the sumo who gets his wings melted by the torikumi committee when he flies too close to the sun. Poor guy.

I see a playoff between Terunofuji and Takanosho with the former prevailing.

mI hate to pile onto the guys, but the performances of our Ozeki have been disappointing at best and abysmal at worst. With a Yokozuna at 3 losses at that stage of the tournament, one or two of those guys should be in contention.

Despite that, if indeed all three of them go kadoban, two of them are probably going to survive somehow.

If we hit "reset" right now and produced a new banzuke based on how good the wrestlers have been over the last few basho, how would the sanyaku look?

Here's my version:

Y: Terunofuji

O: Mitakeumi, Wakatakakage

S: Hoshoryu, Kiribayama

K: Daieisho, Takanosho

I would bet that all three make it, even if it feels undeserved.

I know it's easy to forget, but Takakeisho is not actually kadoban yet. And he has a good chance to get his 8th win against Shodai.
